Carson Palmer 3 yr $50mil extension....

News is the Cardinals just gave Palmer a 3 year 50 million extension. That's about 17 million a year for a older QB with health issues. I believe this could pretty much predict that Cam could easily make 20 million a year when extended. Discuss.

"Health issues?"

The guy has missed 22 games in 11 seasons, with 12 of those in one season.

He's locked up for 2015, that's it. It's basically a $16M per year deal with no guaranteed money beyond 2015 and options for the each of the last 2 years.

The Cardinals, I believe, are one of the teams in play to make a run at Cam Newton should he decide to listen to offers. Which imho, he would be dumb not to do.

Good lord, man. Logan Thomas is hot garbage. If anything, this contract for an aging, often injured QB shows that Arizona pretty much feels that way too.

Haven't watched him yet in Arizona (preseason is all I saw) like I said I'm a hokie homer but he has the tools the be a good Qb just needs to work on his mental game

I don't know if you remember the playoff game where Pittsburg took his knees out. It really turned his career around and some say he was never the same.

Also career arm issues and has had injuries just this year. Add age to that equation which usually means slower healing process.

I haven't seen him in AZ either. Those last couple of seasons in BlacksburG were all I needed to see. After his sophomore season, he looked like a potential future #1 overall pick, but just went backwards from there.

So Tony Romo was legitimately worth a hundred million?

It was, after all, market value.

He signed a 6 year 108 Million contract.   17-21 Million is the legitimate starting QB money range in today's environment. .   Period end of.  Flacco, Ryan, Manning, Brees, , Cutler, Rodgers, Stafford,  Kapernick, Romo,  even Alex Smith make in that range.

So 32% of the QB's in the league make between 17-21 mill a year.  Then you have the Rothlisbergers, Brady, Phillip RIvers , the other Manning, group who are on older contracts that are making in the 16 mill range.

Then you have the ones who are about to get paid. Luck,Wilson, Newton.

Then you have the poo poo platter special.

So long answer short, was Tony Romo legitimately worth 100 mill or 18 mill per year.

The answer is yes.  Not only because the market says he is worth it.  But more importantly because some rich guy who has made more money than either of will times 10 decided he was.

Also:

If there was no salary cap , this wouldn't really be a huge discussion.  However because there is a salary cap, people keep trying to rationalize "playing hardball" or "not caving in" or not "destroying the cap" by paying players market value.

Jordans aren't worth 200 dollars, but the market supports it and people stand in line to pay it.

The house in the really nice neigborhood didn't cost 400,000 to build but the market says that's what you sell it for.

Whether you agree QB's are worth that or not, it doesn't matter what you think, all it takes is for 1 team to think he is.

Jerry Jones runs the Cowboys.

If you wanna trust his judgement, well...

The team announced Friday that it signed Palmer to a three-year extension, which will keep him under contract through 2017. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the pact is worth $50 million with roughly $20 million guaranteed through 2015, according to a source who has seen the deal.

Only 20mil guaranteed apparently.

Well, they're a lot better than us this year and he does have two Super Bowl rings as an owner.

Us Panthers fans really can't be too cocky and look down on other franchises.  Just about every franchise in the league has had more historic success than ours has.  That's just the cold hard truth.

He's also built the Cowboys into easily the most valuable franchise in the league and clearly actually gives a fug about whether or not his team wins.  Some of his decisions are questionable at best, but the man does try his damnedest to field a winning team.  I'm honestly not sure if I can say the same for JR.
