SI.com ranks Rivera in "Hottest of Hot Seat" Tier

If we keep getting blown out Rivera will be gone for sure. People look to Fox when saying he want get fired, but forget how much success Fox had. Coach of the year or not, if we submarine he will be gone. I think even if we finish 7-9 Shula is gone because back to back winning seasons was the deal.

Not a chance Rivera gets canned.  He just signed an extension, then we blew up half the roster and our big FA move isn't on the field.  It's illogical to think that there is even the slightest chance Ron is gone after this year.  And unless next year is a total disaster, he gets at least then as well before his seat even gets warm.

Ron may not be the best coach, but I do believe he can be solid with a solid roster.  Unfortunately, we don't currently have a solid roster.  We certainly have several pieces, but too many holes in key spots.  And I truly expect that after this off-season we'll fix, or at least improve, the disastrous parts of the roster.  So, while this is a down year, I think next season will be better, and hugely disappointing for those that want Ron gone.

In the NFL solid is not worth the money. No owner keeps a coach he does not believe can win a Superbowl. Regardless of talent if he keeps getting blown out he will lose his job. More likely Shula will lose his this year. If DG goes by the Giants formula that's what happens.

To be accurate, Ron is on the "Could be on the bubble."

But why would the OP want to be accurate?

He's definitely closer to the "Danger Ahead" than "Could Be on the Bubble" - that's Trestman, Whiz, Coughlin, Tomlin, etc.

You can see his circle is colored red, not purple.

in February-

if I told you we would lose Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton, Steve Smith, Mike Mitchell, Greg Hardy, Cap'n Munnerlyn, Tedd Ginn, Lafell, Tolbert, D.Will and Stewart (for significant periods of time) -

if you knew then how could you be upset at Rivera to be 3-5-1??

Your post certainly makes one stop and think. Those players, with the possible exception of Stewart, were all significant contributors to our success last year.

By design or otherwise, Gettleman blew up the team in the offseason. He should shoulder most of the blame for this year's result.

On the other hand, Rivera chose Shula, a guy who's probably gotten too much blame but was still a very questionable choice for the OC position.  And while I have no direct evidence to support it, my feeling is Rivera bought into much of what Gettleman did with the roster.

Rivera never impressed me much as a head coach. Four years into this, it's still hard to say what our overall team philosophy is and what the plan is going forward. Since Gettleman seems intent on blowing things up, this would be a good time to correct the mistake made 4 years ago. We can do better than Ron Rivera.

Solid can win a Super Bowl.  And I think Rivera is good enough to win, he just needs better players to work with.  It's easy to look at blowouts and blame the coach, but any owner is going to look at the overall picture for reasons before deciding to dump a guy he just signed to a multi-year contract (without that extension, we would likely be having a different conversation).  And I think even a novice evaluator can look at this team and see that our OL is destroying any chance for our offense to be effective (IMO, they are historically bad).  Also, the defense has had some significant problems, which have lead to the blowouts...most of them completely out of the control of coaches.  Nobody could have anticipated the Hardy situation (and despite some posters attempt to lay the blame on the team, it is clear this was a league directive).  While Rivera is not blameless, he is far from the main reason for our problems.

Sometimes we have to look at the reasons for problems, and not just try to lay blame on the most convenient person.

As for Shula, I actually think he could be an ok coordinator for a power oriented conventional team with all the pieces, but he is not good at working with an offense with holes that has a unique guy at QB that needs to have a gameplan designed to take full advantage of his abilities.  So, IMO, we need to move on and bring in a guy that can design a creative scheme.  For comparisons sake, what would Seattle's offense look like if they tried to run a conventional scheme with Wilson trying to stay in the pocket?  It would probably look just as bad as ours.  But they knew that they had to create a scheme that maximized what Wilson does in order to be successful...unlike Shula who seems to think the read option is the pinnacle of creativity.

True and Bill Belichick cheats but all that matters to me is that we win. Would you rather play good and loose or play dirty and win?

You ever wonder why every coach in the NFL covers there mouth to date when calling plays on the sideline. Belichick perfected something everyone does and thought he found a loophole. They said it wasn't.....Belichick still sleep walks to double digit win seasons without it.

I don't carry for Fisher so I wouldn't want to win doing it bc it is lame. Belichick isn't lame.

But Belichick has talent. Without it.....he sucks too. Shula doesn't have talent but everyone glosses over it
