SI.com ranks Rivera in "Hottest of Hot Seat" Tier

The only 2 coaches fired with time on their contracts were Seifert and Capers. In both cases they were canned not just for losing but because they had lost control of the locker room and players didn't respect them. Rivera is respected and liked by the players because he is one of them. He will be here this year and next unless he loses the locker room also. Richardson was a player and puts a lot of stock in how the coaches handles the players and how they respond

D to him. At least that is what it seems from the outside looking in.

We have a probowler at the highest payed position on defense taking up $13m of the cap while not playing. Add in that four fifths of, the possible league worstto begin with, offensive line is injured or playing hurt.

Rivera stays...

And they the FO completely trashed his entire WR corp and gave him a rookie and JAGs

Little reason to blame Rivera. Gettlemen should feel more heat. The Hurney card doesn't give him the pass people act like it should

If upper management fires Rivera it won't help us be a winning franchise. Upper management is why we aren't winning.....past and present. Not coaching

Don't agree, and I think Gettleman is taking us down the right path by fixing some long term salary cap issues.  Of course, he will make some mistakes along the way, as he did this off season.  But if he doesn't continually saddle us with long term big money contracts for a significant number of players that don't produce, then he is a definite improvement.

I don't necessarily blame Rivera for this season, although I think its probable that there are other coaches who could do better on the offensive side.  But I think we need to consider the possibility that Gettleman will want to bring in someone he has a hand in choosing.

I wouldn't be dead certain of that.

I may be in the minority but I believe Rivera is a good coach. The problems this season are related to having to replace several key cogs in this team with no salary cap space, the Greg Hardy fiasco tying up $13 Million of Cap space and an offensive coordinator who can only produce when a defense holds the other team to under 13 points.

Next year we'll get some young players to fill these spots and hopefully a new offensive coordinator that will play to Cam's strengths rather than his weaknesses.

'Good coach' speaking in general terms, I agree.

Good coach as in has the right skill set to be a head coach at the NFL level though?

To that, I have to say no.

The only two?  That's actually two out of three.  Not good odds for Rivera.  Don't kid yourself, they were fired because they lost too many games.

I agree ..not sure how the Hc's for Miami and Cleveland are on the hot seat.. they are the hottest teams right now for teams that have sucked over the years..

III agree somewhat but I'm not sure how current this article is. Why would Joe Philibin be on the hot seat? The Dolphins are on a winning streak, and Sporano is  basically an interim HC anyway. Just sayin'.

Fwiw, they could be right. If this season continues to go downhill, that will be 3 out of 4 seasons with a losing record. Its not outside the realm of possibility that upper management decides to move on and bring in their own guy.

In context he improved for all three seasons over the previous year so while the first 2 were losing seasons he inherited a team with some potential but only a handful of actual stars coming off a 2-14 season. So really this might be the first year we actually took a turn for the worse. Given the mass changes, no one expected us to be good, so how can you blame Rivera when he does the best he can with what he has to work with. .Really the best most folks could do with this group.
