Do u eco101 bro?

When the price of labor increases, the increased cost of doing business gets passed onto the consumer, unless the producer is a "price taker", Meaning they have a small piece of the total marketshare.

It gets passed on but not at the rate you are saying. Not even close.

Of course you seem to be fine with subsidizing their profits. That's pretty socialist of you

Who was Ford really competing with in the car market at the time though? You can't really compare the past to now. A raise in wage would be a good thing for some companies, but a forced major increase in min wage doesn't accomplish that.

Holy poo. Someone actually gets it.

Automobile assembly men werent making minimum wage either for the time period. They were skilled workers who specialized in a particular job. Flipping burgers and waiting tables is neither specialized or skilled.

I feel sorry for the young folks today with their very low expectations. Hell I started out on a job fresh out of the navy close to 30 years ago making $ 12 hourly plus some nice perks. And I didnt need high speed internet access nor dress clothes, though I did need a car to drive to work. It wasnt great money even then though I was happy to get it. How far does $20,000 a year go these days?

Funny how you immediatly blamed Obama for wages determined by corporations....bc of course.

We aren't just talking about Wal-Mart though. We are talking across the board. We are also talking about 12 bucks an hour increasing to twenty, twenty and hour to forty and so on. I make more than fifteen dollars an hour you don't think if this takes place that I'm not demanding a raise? If this takes place and you make more than minimum wage you aren't asking for a raise???

Exactly.

Anyone who thinks the only cost increase for a significant increase in minimum wage would be the increase for only those people are nuts.  ALL (maybe not the very top) salaries would increase.

It really isn't that hard to understand....well to intelligent people anyway.

I would think an intelligent person wouldn't derail a thread. But then there's you.

There are people out of work with disabilities that would love the chance to support themselves without government assistance. Obviously nobody dreams of working in customer service for $10 an hour but if it gets someone working I think it's a great thing.

These jobs ideally, are for people that need them.

Do you know what a $15 minimum wage would do?? Your dollar menu at mcdonalds will triple to 3, your gasoline prices will skyrocket, General prices of nearly all consumer goods will increase as well.

Minimum wage jobs were intended to be a "stepping-stone" not a corner stone of a family.

We are talking about pretty drastic things here. But wouldn't the decline of the Fast Food industry be a good thing? Those jobs aren't "stepping stones" because you don't gain any skills or life lessons that will advance you in life. You can't put yourself through college on minimum wage. What you end up with is the poor that take those jobs rarely advance. Any movement is lateral.

College kids work those jobs too but not out of necessity. They just want a few bucks to pay for cell phones and dime bags.

And of course, our country would be better off if they spent their three dollars at Bi-Lo instead of McDonalds.
