Hornets vs. Heat Game Thread

I agree with you. I believe he will need a few years to develop skills and gain some weight to fill out his frame. I still think he could have a chance to come off the bench for a small amount of time. He can block shots and shoot jumpers so I could see us using him in certain situations.

We probably could use him in certain situations. I personally would rather see him go to D League and start and play a lot of minutes to learn the game.

That is just me though

Yes but considering he just had a major injury should we let him play in the D league where he will get a lot of minutes and be playing against lesser competition or playing for a few minutes against NBA players?

Probably not if he is injured, but I would rather him play lesser competition for 25-30 minutes a game, than NBA guys for 5 minutes a game.

He needs to learn mentally and play against guys and get tougher. It is hard to do that when you aren't practicing much and not playing.

Plus Clifford has made clear he isn't going to play guys just for development anymore. I don't see Vonleh being better than Williams or Zeller right now.

Maybe if one of them gets hurt he can get some minutes.

I understand what your are getting at though. I can understand the argument both ways.

Yea I'm a opened minded person that likes to look at things both ways.

Considering Vonleh's age and how raw he is I don't see how spending some time in the D league could hurt. I honestly don't want him being rushed to play after surgery. I think this season will be a great season for us and if MKG continues to be successful with that new shot we will be in NBA title contention. Which means we won't have time to give Vonleh much playing time unless someone gets injured and then Bizmack may be ahead of him on the depth chart.

Yes. If Kemba shoots 83% from the field, 100% from the FT line, and has a 7/1 assist to turnover ratio every game he will be a pretty good PG

Haha, I should have been more specific. I know nobody human can create those numbers every night. I just didn't see a lot of panic in his game. He played within himself and it showed. I think when he plays with that level of self control he's a hard player to defend. When the ball moves naturally to the right places and Al gets his touches it just frees up so much space for a net driver like Kemba to do work. It seems like sometimes that Kemba gets caught up looking at his point totals and forgets he has other guys on his team that can score the ball too. When he's making sure everybody gets touches, it makes him and the entire offense twice as dangerous.

Suck it Heat!

It got a little too close at the end but we played our best game overall all season.

I love the energy PJ brings to the arena on his made threes, I can't wait to see a game where he is on fire.

This.

It is so underestimated...  Like Dennis Scott (or was it Kendall Gill or Steve Smith? lol) said during the summer league, he just has this energy about him that every shot he takes, you feel like it's going to go in.  So, when he makes it, the fans go crazy and it feeds into the team and just turns into momentum, because as soon as one goes in, you start believing that the next shot will go in, and then the next one.

I think you guys are really overrating Hairston's game tonight. I'm excited about him also, but he shot poorly overall and didn't (at least to me) seem all that confident early on. I believe he'll be a good player, but I certainly am not basing that off tonight.

I like that he has the quick trigger to be a very effective catch and shoot guy. We have lacked that this season because Gary Neal has become more of a shot creator this season as opposed to a guy that spreads the floor. No, PJ didn't have a very good shooting night, but it was his first home game and I suppose that will come with more game time.

When it does, that will open up the offense immensely and add a great weapon to the transition game (which they tried once, unfortunately it didn't go in.)

Contrast that with Roberts, Hendo, and Neal who always seem to hesitate in the offense and pass up good, open shots.

Very excited for PJ. If he gets more consistent, we have a late first round steal.

But, that's the thing that is exciting about PJ.  As teeray pointed out in another thread, all it takes is one shot to get him going, and you saw that tonight.

He can get hot quick, and if he does, he can put up tons of points in a hurry.  Imagine if he had hit every one of those shots tonight...  they weren't bad shots, and he's capable of doing that.  I think he has potential to be a James Harden-type of player.  But, as I said, he's the first guy, for whatever reason, in a long time, that everyone in the building thinks will make every shot he takes.

I agree, but I see where posters will tire of the PJ hype if he can't do any better than 2 for 9. Eventually, "just imagine" has to actually happen.
