Hornets vs Pelicans Game Thread.

New Orleans: 47 rebounds Hornets 34:

Both teams had 12 turnovers. Stephenson had 5 in 23 minutes. New Orleans was 19 for 19 at the foul line.

These are the reasons we lost, number wise. I didn't feel good about this game going in, I do about tomorrow night though. We'll have our first win against the Heat in 4 years. Mark it down.

The thing that bothers me is Clifford has always struck me as an old-school, Larry Brown-type of coach. He picks the guys he wants and likes, and he dotes on them. And on the opposite side of the spectrum, he finds the guys he didn't have a hand in choosing and shits on them 'til one of them have to go.

I feel like that's what he's doing with Lance.

Don't get me wrong, Lance seems to do a lot of "freelancing" lol. But, his leash is extremely, and surprisingly short for a prized FA signing. That bothers me. A lot... I don't like where this is going.

I don't like his "vets first" style which I addressed earlier, but the reality is Gary Neal has outplayed Lance by a large margin. Lance is trying to do too much and is becoming more of the problem than the solution.

I have no problem switching him and Neal until Lance shows alot more like he did against the Knicks. Salary shouldn't dictate playing time.

I'm not gonna lie though, watching Lance the first few games, it doesn't feel like he "loves" doing those things, it feels like he does them to get a triple double.

I'm not knocking him, it just doesn't feel like it comes from being selfless and a great teammate.

That being said, I think Clifford is being a dumb asshole for benching him anytime he makes a wrong movement while keep shitbags like Hendo out there for the entire game.

If it's any comfort.  Hairston got his chance by attrition and I think that Clifford will take notice.

Yeah, but the piece in this whole puzzle that doesn't fit is Hendo.  Problem is, Clifford is trying to make it into Lance because he isn't one of "his guys."  You can feel it...  He doesn't like his personality and is trying to make an example of him.  That really pisses me off.

Let's see we force feed the ball to Jefferson. He scores 20 points but it takes 17 shots. Ugh. We don't utilize lance and play his game. Clifford is turning him into Gerald Henderson. I don't think he likes lance and it's bull $hit. I don't know what's wrong with this team but we better shake it up.

I think that's reading too much into it. In reality I think Cliff knows what Lance can do and is frustrated that he has yet to do it consistently.

I'll agree on Hendo though. If the Hornets are the Panthers in basketball form, I feel like he and Maxiell are the Godfrey and Harper of the team and by jettisoning them we would see a noticeable improvement.

I've also noticed this. It's like Clifford doesn't like team ball. If the starters are out there we force feed it to Jefferson. When the second unit is out there we force feed Gary Neal. Damn run some plays to open up Kemba. Run some plays to get lance to the basket. Run some plays to let Marvin drain some threes. Instead of utilizing you're teo oldest players that u like bc they are veterans.

Maybe I'm just frustrated idk. But jeeze

Agreed, but that is yet another thing that irks me when it comes to coaching...  And it comes from personal experience...

If you know what a guy is capable of and he isn't doing it yet, putting his ass on the bench every other game isn't going to get it out of him.  A guy can't play his game unless he's on the court.  He's pulling the plug way too quickly.  And again, it feels like there is a personal dislike growing there.  Clifford made it a point to say how horrible Lance was in game two, and in the same breath praised Neal for doing everything right.  Neal is one of his guys...  Neal has played great for us so far this year, but it's like he is pitting Lance against him to justify benching him while Hendo continues to roll out there and pop 18-footers off the rim and allow his man to drive freely to the basket at will.
