Is Cam Newton the next Jay Cutler?

Remind me which QB has been more errant in passing in the last 3 weeks, struggled reading coverages and defenses more in his career and which QB has saved his ass by bailing on the designed play to run it?  Sure, it's great when he can run it and pick up yards, maybe even a first.  But, that's not how football works.  He needs to sit in the pocket and throw to WR's and hit the tight windows most NFL QB's can hit.  He doesn't no matter what accolades he has and it is a team sport.  Cam Newton is a big reason that this team has a losing record.

get your trolling ass out of here

Of all the idiocy we've heard, I don't ever recall Newton's toughness as an athlete being questioned.

Cutler was being called out by current players and former players for heading to the bench in arguably the biggest game of his career.

The only area where the two would even remotely compare is that they both have a big arm. That's where it ends. Cutler fighting for extra yards? Newton has twice as many total rushing yards in only 3 and a half seasons as Cutler has had in nearly 10 seasons.

As idiotic as the obligatory and automatic "Mike Vick" comparisons are, this one is even worse.

I'm not arguing Cutler-Newton is a good comparison at all, but the injuries that Cutler has had are arguably attributable to issues Newton has or has had to deal with. In the past the Bears had a shitty oline which meant he took a lot of sacks, fighting for extra yards when scrambling etc. Of course, Newton is able to take a more punishment than Cutler because of his size.

My actual point was just that I think the whole Cutler=pussy thing is based off of him not playing in that one game, and I don't think that one game is a good indicator of how "tough" he is overall.

I'm sorry EJ Manuel didn't work out for you guys.

There is ONE fact and one fact alone about our Cam:

He's either going to become a very great QB, or will pretty much fall apart (see: Vick). As I said in another thread, people want an elite QB so bad here for the first time, they simply will not admit that Cam may not be the answer. Other can see him doing well and also see him busting. Trolls aside (who you should just ignore), these blind Cam Homers are who make these threads bad.

They are similar in a couple of ways, and I've been talking about them since Cam's first season.

1: They are both wait and see QB's, they like to see their WR open before firing, many strong armed QB's are like this, and I have been saying this for a very long time.  Cutler, Cam, Stafford, Favre...etc.

2: They are streaky.  Games where you will shake your head and say how did he do that, then games where you shake your head and say why did he do that, it's who they are.

You can win with QB's like this, and you can fail miserably, the trick is to be able to ride them when they are on, and try to make them take a backseat and let the team win when they are off.

Very knowledgeable comment. Yes, you can win with these types of streaky QB's. However, you cannot win with these types of QB's when they are vastly overpaid. Cutler is that way and Cam will be that way if what is being reported is true.

The QB Cam reminds me of the most is Donovan McNabb..................same build and similar skill sets..............same running, passing and game management.........like McNabb he will show flashes of brilliance and win some big regular season games...........but I wonder of the consistency in games that matter the most (aka playoff games) if he like McNabb will eventually falter when it counts the most..........

that the way I see it.........

I don't see how you can call Cam a bust. He may never turn into Joe Montana but he isn't Ryan Leaf either. Cam will likely play a long time rack up lots of TD's and interceptions(Brett Favre) and history will remember him based off one thing. Did he ever win a ring? If he does he will go to the hall of fame if not he will be remembered like McNabb or McNair. Guys who were really good but not quite great enough to win it all.

They look the same, but don't play the same.....IMO.

Take a look back at the early years of Elway, and you will see a lot of Cam.

Cam's career may be very similar to Elway's when it's all said and done, if he can stay healthy.

Is this supposed to be sarcastic or ironic? If not that's a pretty retarded comment.

Why does he have to be a Hall of Famer or a bust? Joe Flacco won the Super Bowl a couple of seasons ago. Is he a very good quarterback? Or is he somewhere in the 8-15th best in the league?

All Cam needs to be is the Panther's franchise QB.
