Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Arroz con Panther

So I'm thinking of getting it. I hated ghosts and mw3, but every other cod was alright in my opinion. Can any of you give a review of the game? I feel like my time and money is better off going to FarCry 4 when it is released...

I'll try to give one early morning/tomorrow. I'm about to start paying for a few hours. I'll probably just play multiplayer though.

Campaign was waaaay too short, but it beats the poo out of COD:Ghosts. At times it was a little campy but overall it was very good. It was as memorable to me as MW3 and was as good as the campaign on BO2. Graphics wise, I played on XBone, it was superb. The motion capture and animation on Kevin Spacey's character was awesome, as is the lead character, who is suppose to look like Troy Baker I think(it looked like it to me). They have this game mode called EXO survival which I haven't delved into yet, it's a co-op mode kinda like Survival Mode from MW3 and Zombies will be available down the road as a paid DLC.

Now, the multi-player Ive only played about an hour and a half on it, and the Exo suits have gotten old...............real damn quick. I dont know if it was the lobby I was in but there was A LOT of Halo jumping going on and I'm prob not going to be playing it much at least in public matches. The maps are good, well the couple I played were good, not too small, not too big. There were no lockdown choke points but like I said, it doesn't matter if people can just jump right over you and fire down deadshot on you while you have no chance in hell at shooting them flying in the air.

Which prior Call of Duty game would you most compare the multiplayer too?

Everything about the game is a copy and paste from Black Ops 2 with certain new components and the Exo-Suit. Luckily they have a Classic Playlist, but since the exo-suit encourages fast paced action instead of camping, it might be fairly decent in the long run.

So, after playing it for a few hours (online), I have to say that I'm impressed.  Now, is that just because it launch day, I don't know, but here are a few things I thought I should get down on paper.

Style of play

I've always been a run-and-gun type player.  I can't stand sitting in one spot for too long.  This game suits the run-and-gun style VERY well.  Is it because people are jumping all over the place?  Yea, that has something to do with it, but I don't mind it.

I believe someone said it was a mixture of BO2 and MW3.  I would have to agree that those are the closest.  However, I would say this is more a combination of Titanfall and Destiny (online) with the COD feel.

Exo-Suit

Definitely adds a lot of versatility to the game, but I think it's balanced.  Besides the "double-jump" there are dashes that you can perform to propel yourself left, right, forward, and even backwards.  This might annoy some people and I can see a lot of people referring to this as "lagging."  There are a few ways that SledgeHammer counter-acts the suit.

For one, there is a slight delay in firing your weapon after you "dash."  Obviously, you know why they put the delay in.  You can also get in trouble if you jump around too much simply because a lot happens and someone on the ground can easily determine where you are going to land and pick you off.  It's also not too hard to shoot someone in the air if they are just "jumping" and not "dashing".  You get a nice little medal called, "$k33t Shooter" for accomplishing this.

Maps

I haven't play all of the maps, but from what I have played, they are by no means boring.  With the addition of the Exo-Suit, the maps are no longer boring in the sense of there are only three pathways leading from one end to the other.  These types of maps still exist, but the majority of the maps are more "vertical".  You can think of the homes on the Greek Isles (literally, a map looks like the picture below).  It's also awesome that you can jump up to a point that you were not able to reach in previous titles.  The map layouts with the addition of the Exo-Suits make for an interesting start to capture-based game modes.

Looting

Yep, there is technically looting.  I think I read somewhere that there are over 350 combinations of guns.  I haven't quite figured out how it works yet, but you can pick up either items to further your character's outfit (gloves, helmets, etc) or you get different variations of guns.  If you do find a variation of the gun, you'll see that one stat is increased, while another is decreased to keep it balanced.  Some items you only have for a limited amount of time, while other items you can store in your armory.  Those that are stored in your armory can be "dismantled" for XP (for example, a gun can be thrown away for 500 XP).

Personally, I think it's a cool concept and keeps it interesting.

Final 1:30 AM thoughts

1. They have brought back the game mode of War from World at War.  It's called Momentum in AW.

2. With all the chaos that Exo-Suits adds to the game and the layout of the maps, I can see camping being very minimal.

3. It also looks like you can upgrade you killstreaks, but I haven't gotten that far yet.  One thing I did notice is that you have the chance to share a teammates killstreak.  For instance, if they have a player-controlled drone flying overhead, the game will prompt teammates to "Hold X to control the killstreak".  The first teammate to hit and hold X gets to control the second gun of the drone.

4. You also have Survivor packages like Battlefield 4 that are awarded.  You get to open them up for a prize (looted items) after the match.

In the end, it's COD, but it has a completely different feel.  I don't mind it because that's what the community has been calling for over the past few years.  There is going to be some complaining and they'll need to tweak a few things, but it is a refreshing change of pace.

I just typed a wall of text....
