Greg Cosell talks Cam and the Saints game

i think this is more reactionary to one terrible game that is overshadowing what he has done in the past. games like thursday are not the norm. Not at all.

a couple games ago people were glowing about how Cam is finally learning the little nuances of the game. i.e. checking off safety's, moving up in the pocket to throw.

i think cosell is right on the money when he says it's possible the oline is fuging with Cam's head. Seattle game was the start of his worries imo.

Cosell is always reactionary and is FIXATED ON CAM NEWTON AND NOTHING ELSE PANTHER-RELATED, therefore, I ignore him. I don't care about his reputation and credentials. When he blamed receiver drops on Cam Newton last Friday morning, that was it for me. He actually had the audacity to say, "Did the receiver actually drop the pass or did the QB do something that led to the drop?" The receiver dropped it since it went between his freaking hands.

He never has squat to say about Rivera and Shula. I repeat: THE PLAYS CAM RUNS ARE DESIGNED IN A WAY THAT THROWS OFF THE TIMING. In most cases, he is catching the ball in shotgun, faking the handoff to the RB, acting like he is going to run, and then pulling up and passing it.

There is way too much going on before the pass.

The offense Cam runs is based on trickery. If Cosell doesn't start there, f-ck him.

*sigh* you say that Cosell is always reactionary and fixated on Cam but he never says anything about Shula or Rivera.

You have such a strong opinion for someone who obviously doesn't know what Cosell does.

He watches film and evaluates plays and the players that execute those plays. He doesn't evaluate or give opinions on coaches or play calling and he makes that clear.

I'm white dude, but there is clearly a bias. If Luck had a bad game, he wouldn't draw near the same ire from the Media.

#TruthNotRacism

I think the point is this.....

When do elite qb's have a game like Cam has had the past few weeks?

Show stats where Manning, Brady, Brees, Rogers, or Luck had a similar statistical game.

Sidenote- Cam is my guy, would not trade him for any of the above named qb's. For arguments sake i think you would be hard pressed to find a statistically similar/worse 3 game stretch by any franchise qb in the last 3 years. Nothing to do with race....

Cam is wildly inconsistent and that'll be the story of his career

Especially as long as he's in an offense that tries to trick the defense every play instead of trying to overpower them. Standing up out of a squatting position after faking a handoff in the read option breeds bad footwork and inconsistent passing.

I know who Cosell is and what he does, and I've heard his Cam obsession every Friday morning for the past year on WFNZ.

What part of I don't care about his reputation or credentials don't you get?

He ignores everything that goes into what dictates what Cam does on a given play, and in doing so he half does his job. If Cam's line blows up in his face, only a fool would fixate on the fact that his footwork was bad. OF COURSE IT WAS. How can your footwork be good when the defense is shoving one of your O linemen up your nose?

Even when Cosell acknowledged last Friday that a bad line may be in Cam's head, he did so in a way that ***suggested*** that Cam might be SEEING GHOSTS out there like David Carr, and might be scarred by this for the rest of his career, which again, is on him to get over, of course. He pulled that angle straight out of his @$$ instead of questioning Gettleman or the line. Instead, he made excuses for the young LT getting his first start, and being put in a tough situation.

In other words, there are good reasons when anyone besides Cam fails to Cosell. It's not like Cam has the good OL that every QB wants. He's supposed to make them better too, I guess, just like when Cosell talked away Benjamin's dropped pass in the endzone, by suggesting that drops are sometimes the QB's fault, lol.

Newton literally threw 1 INT versus the Saints, and he had a rushing touchdown.

Andrew Luck threw like what, 7 INT's through two playoff games last year?

Also, did you not watch the recent Super Bowl? Peyton Manning was abysmal, and this is coming from someone who likes Peyton.

Brees had a game just two years ago versus the Falcons where he threw for 0 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

All QB's experience ups and downs. It's how they react to it and move forward from there that defines them.

Thought it was interesting that Cosell said the " drop " by Bersin and " drop " by Benjamin in the end zone was a timing issue. Just the thing we were concerned about with Cam having all new receivers this year and no chances prior to TC to work with them.

Timing is also thrown off bad bad line play. Too soon because of pressure or too late because of jams at the line or having to avoid pass rush. Could also be Cam throwing off his back foot.

To beat Manning, Brees,or Brady its all the same way, get pressure. No QB looks good when being hit.

I agree you gave 1 instance of a bad game for each. I think that if we address the issues that we have, he could be the GOAT, but right now he looks like a young inconsistent qb to outsiders. Cam possesses the tools to be a BEAST. I think it is on the Panthers to decide if they wanna invest in the possibility of having the best qb of all time.

But the last 3 games, the way Cam played them, Cam's stats were bad. I still stand by my statement that you would struggle to find an equally bad three games by another franchise qb over the last 3 years.

I think their are mitigating factors in the horrible 3 game stretch.... Olsen blocking for our shitty line, a ton of drops, terrible throws, mike shula and several other things. But the fact is its three bad games. Cam as the leader of the team gets the blame from the media.

Love the guy and wouldnt trade him for anyone else but he is rightfully being criticised. It happens.

You do realize that he only has 5 interceptions on the season, yes?

I hardly think he's the first talented QB to throw 1 INT in 3 consecutive games.

We know Newton will put in the work and improve, we know the kind of competitor he is.

Honestly, I'm less concerned with the players right now, and more with the coaches. They have to start gameplanning better.

I agree the interceptions arent bad.... Its the yards and over/missed throws.

The coaching is fuging trash. The players around him other than a few are not great. I think it is a mixture of issues, with Cam taking a share of that with some rough play the last few weeks.

I would not question Cams work ethic or desire to be the greatest that's part of why we love him and others hate him.

It has been a tough few weeks overall. Not one player has GREAT, Ron and Shula dont help or a pussy FO.
