The Steelers have the blueprint on how to utilize Cam

We drafted Benjiman because he was BPA. If DG is only going to draft tall players because Cam overthrows guys like EVERY QB in the league than he may as well trade Cam.

Cam showed nice touch on many deep balls to Ginn last year. Ginn was also able to create separation providing Cam with a larger window to throw into.

Ginn is reaching a Shockey-like level of overrating here on the huddle.

Was Ginn not good for a deep ball a game? Did Ginn not create downfield separation? My post had more to do with Cam's touch than Ginn as a WR. Where did I say Ginn was a great WR? He was a WR with the ability to take the top off a D who could haul in the ball sometimes.

A great secondary has a hard time with short speedy guys. Ask Seattle.

See who Denver added on offense?

People have a short memory... Last year everyone was bitching about getting a big WR cause Cam constantly overthrew Smitty.  We got a big WR now everyone is bitching that we need a smaller faster WR.

No. We need a big and fast WR (like the Steelers recently drafted).

Big Ben has better pocket presence than Cam. what is pocket presence you say? It is moving your feet and dancing around the pocket: step forward, slide left, right diagonal etc .... buy yourself time IN THE POCKET. Cam bails out of the pocket at the 1st sign of pressure and takes off. That gets us a few 1st downs and the occasional big run, but not always a good idea for our offense as well as Cam if he wants to have a long career

Big Ben is also more accurate, which also can mostly be attributed to good footwork. Cam needs to improve his footwork. Take up boxing, ballet, Salsa whatever ... but work on your feet man

You touched on this in another thread, and I responded but forgot to get back to your response.

Big Ben has had his ups and downs the last few years. All these things you talk about come with time and experience in the NFL. Something that Newton is obviously rather short on compared to BB. Ben has gone through a few OC changes as well, the right fit does wonders.

Ultimately I would agree that they are comparable players in regards to the attributes they bring to their respective teams, but they are in completely different places right now in terms of their careers. One is a seasoned and wise veteran, the other is still learning as he goes.

What is the best way to get Newton on the right path short term? It starts with developing a gameplan that can mask his and the rest of our offenses deficiencies, while also helping him get in a rhythm early by getting him some quick throws on shorter routes at a faster pace.

The fact that we are still hellbent on running these long developing routes while obviously lacking speed at WR is simply absurd.

i agree, but you look at most mobile QB's, they rely on getting out of the pocket to make a play. while immobile QB's move around, step up in and find openings in the pocket and make the play. while Cam hasnt had the best pocket to work in, i agree that he tends to move outside rather than find space inside the pocket. Cam has gotten better mind you, but can stand a lot of improvement in that category. this will take time, and it has taken all the best QB's time to get good at this. but they never had the mentality that if worse comes to worse, they can always run for the first.

We need an OC with imagination. Doing the same stuff over and over and expecting different results is insanity, which is where Shula is headed. We need Auburn Cam: shotgun and in his own words "simplistic, but fast", I think that' when Cam is at his best.

Shula needs to go. he's not cutting it

The Steelers blueprint is better coaching top to bottom.

Yep, Dick Lebeau and Todd Haley were the architects of the Panthers' collapse this season. They came up with a beautiful game plan to exploit our schemes and we haven't recovered since.

that game showed us a team who can slightly alter their game plan week-to-week based on who they are playing. i dont think Ben threw more than two passes past 10 yards that game against us. they knew we relied on our pass rush and had a weak secondary and offset it by throwing passes behind the LOS and gambling on the secondary having to make a play. it worked. but they dont do that every week.

us, on the other hand, have one game plan no matter who we are playing. it's old, it's stale and it's predictable.
