Two things to consider:

- We could conceivably make the playoffs without a winning record

- Would you still feel the same if things turned out like SPV described?

Two things:

-It's possible but it's very unlikely. 8-7-1 is the worst we can go and make it IMO.

-Yes. Once you're in the playoffs literally anything and everything could happen. G-Man has a good history of teams with bad regular season records making the playoffs...

I would never *hope* for my team to lose, but if we limp into the playoffs at 7-8-1 and get blown out in game one and the coaching staff keeps their jobs because "hey, we made the playoffs for the second year in a row!" I will flip my poo.  If we get our poo together and get into the playoffs with a hot hand and make some noise, win at LEAST one game in the playoffs, then it would mean the coaching staff has legitimately learned how to coach and I'd be fine with them for another season, because there is absolutely no way we win a playoff game with the coaching staff performing as they have been the past month and a half.

The OP mentions the draft, and if it would be worth it to continue to lose in order to obtain a higher draft pick. I can only say this...in 2011 we had the #1 overall draft pick. We chose as you well know, cam newton. Going in to his 4th season this coaching staff has yet to properly recognize his unique skill set and formulate an offense that suits his strength. So...what the fug is another high draft pick going to do for us?
