Why did we sign Ed Dickson?

Ed isn't known for his blocking.

Multiple dropped passes.

So why did Gettleman even sign Dickson? Can't Williams accomplish just as much? Also, why didn't we keep a blocking TE I'd we're just going to use Dickson mainly to block?

Ed took a vet minimum deal, but couldn't that money be spent on something better?

Another risk/reward gamble that is not paying off. My bigger question is why Swolebones isn't getting more time with Dickson not panning out... perhaps it's more a scheme thing or something similarly out of his control.
