Jerry Richardson

His track record speaks for itself. The Panthers are well under .500 since '95, one of the 10 worst records in the league. Not one bit of what has happened with the Panthers throughout the years tells me he knows what he's doing. He doesn't. But like someone else posted, what difference does it make to him if we win or not? We keep losing and yet he gets richer and richer and the team becomes more and more valuable even through the losses.

By the way, pretending that the salary cap and injuries are things that only the Panthers have to deal with is ludicrous.

Good post. I don't understand how anyone can argue otherwise, but they do. Richardson is incapable of building a winning franchise. The Panthers are a losing franchise with a decent season once every 3-4 years.

If Gettleman is such an "expert," why was this his first GM job and at an older age? It's clear he had wanted to be one for a while. The jury's still out on Dave, so quit it with the "expert" nonsense. He hasn't earned "expert" yet. But I guess the threshold for being considered an "expert" by "some people" is lower for "some people."

Gettleman is a scout not a GM, it was a typical JR hire. LMAO at "expert".

If by "some people" you mean Giants GM Jerry Reese, coach Tom Coughlin, owner John Mara or former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi you would be right.

“Dave knows what a football player is,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “He knows how to evaluate talent. He has done a great job of assessing our talent and the talent around the league and helping to identify those players who fill our needs. He is more than qualified to be Carolina's general manager. He is gifted and talented and has worked for years behind the scenes to make sure we are the best we can be.”

No, but they obviously fall into the category. Like they would have ever come out and said he shouldn't be a GM. They would've said exactly the same thing if Richardson had hired Marc Ross, therefore, it means nothing to anyone with a clue.

Cam not having a great year, so......

JR should sell the team, bring in all new coaches, put the Panthers logo on the field, paint the seats a new color and sell beer $2 cheaper per bottle.

Then, Cam will be an icon again and we won't have anyone question his ability.

This above is half of the mentality around here.

Cam Newton is not the Panthers' problem, so he isn't the solution. They sucked before he got there, and never had back to back winning seasons before then. The problem is cultural. You can tell that Rivera buys into the thinking that the QB is supposed to be so good that they can mask everything else that's wrong with the team. THAT is the standard by which every "critic" wants to judge Cam Newton. it's ignorant, but it would surely make Rivera's job a lot easier if it was the case, so I'm glad it isn't.

I am posting this again because I truly believe this. Jerry Richardson is an absolutely awful owner. The panthers could win the next five Super Bowls and I would say they won in spite of him. The fact that he has the nfl shield on the 50 yard line tells you everything you need to know about him. All I hear is how he is so respected around the league by other owners. The reason for that is because they are able to focus on their teams while good ole Jerry will do everything that benefits the NFL for them. Remember this is the same guy explaining pie charts to Super Bowl winners Drew Brees and Peyton Manning. The same guy who teamed up with Jets owner Woody Johnson to keep the ref lockout going. You never want to be teamed up with Woody Johnson in anything. It took real owners like Rooney, Mara, and Kraft to step up and put an end to the ref lockout.

Jerry Richardson pretty much started PSLs which I think should be criminal. I understand many teams do it now but I think they are the worst things to happen to sports. It is funny how all of you who bought PSLs are pretty much responsible for the stadium being built, but this awful owner continues to put the NFL first over you. You guys are responsible for building this stadium but he still had the nerve to threaten the city that the franchise will be moved if they don't fund his stadium. The new Giant stadium used very little city money and the Madison Square Garden renovations were 100 percent paid by owner Dolan. You never heard any of them threatening the city.

It is also embarrassing how he handled the Greg Hardy situation. He was perfectly fine to play week 1 but once he heard the media outrage he faked cried and now Hardy will never play for the panthers again. The product on the field sucks and they deserve what they are getting. The 49ers stood by Ray McDonald and didn't care less about media pressure . They can claim all they want it was ron Riveras decision but we all know it was the big cat. His fake tears make me sick as everyone with a brain could see right through this clown.

What he did to John Fox his last season here was a joke. I hope Fox can win a Super Bowl with denver because he deserves it after our awesome owner sided up with the NFL and gave john fox and embarrassing roster. The strength of our team back in 2003 was our d line. He ran out both Julius peppers and kris jenkins . I understand that he takes care of his players and does awesome stuff for greg Olsen, but shouldn't all billionaire owners do that? The New York Rangers were in the playoffs this past year and one of their star players mother died. He got him a private jet flew him to montreal and had the whole team there that next weekend. That was a great thing he did but there is probably no owner who gets more crap than James Dolan. So why does JR get excused because he is a nice guy?

It really is a shame that no one in the media will ever challenge him. It is a shame that a majority of the fans are fooled by him and will forever give him a pass for bringing a team to the Carolina's. I have news for you, if it wasn't him eventually someone else would have. This thread is completly correct. The issues start at the top. Jerry Richardson always has been and always will be the problem with this team. We will never win anything with such a pathetic excuse of an owner. You guys built this stadium but will always come second to the shield.

Bravo. No matter who the GM is or who the coach is, it's the same ol Panthers. That's ownership.

I hate to keep beating this dead horse, but keeping Hurney around for those 2 extra years has absolutely crippled this franchise. We have no idea what Gettleman can do with a decent cap situation, but I'm actually pretty impressed what he's done so far with limited resources. Hurney's desperate attempts to save his job with short-term fixes in 2010 and 2011 set this team back years.

What exactly has he done? 12-4 was pretty much a combo of Hurney and Gettleman with Ron finally coaching like he knew what he was doing. All he's done is basically sabatoge Cam to save a penny.

Yeah, what could I have possibly been thinking when I gave more credence to the statements of Ernie Accorsi, Jerry Reese, Tom Coughlin and Giants owner John Mara (men who combined have more than a century of experience building winning NFL franchises), rather than a couple of random football fans posting on the internet?

Apparently you have problems understanding English and logic.

Well apparently you have a problem with understanding English also.

Did you not see where I've admitted you and fjblair are right, while Ernie Accorsi, Jerry Reese, Tom Coughlin and Giants owner John Mara were wrong to endorse Dave Gettleman's knowledge and experience?

Gettleman and those other guys are so clueless, while you are so logical!

I understood that you were being sarcastic. Like I said, you apparently have trouble understanding English and logic.

It doesn't matter who affiliated with the Giants endorsed Gettleman, since none of them were going to do any less with regard to Gettleman, Marc Ross, or anyone else who was offered a similar opportunity. Hire someone from another organization and their colleagues would've said the same thing.

Maybe you go through life impressed by the status quo and formality, but I don't.

Is your mind going to be blown in 2016 when Presidential candidates are being endorsed by members of their own parties? Based on your comments here, if you won't be, then you're a hypocrite, lol. I will be as equally unimpressed then as I was by what you posted.

Right again.  Gettleman's actual NFL experience building winning NFL teams is sorely lacking when compared to your widely renowned football evaluation skills.

All these men who have worked with Gettleman for years are totally insincere in their praise.  We all know that no one ever says what they actually believe to the press.  If I were as logical as you, I would know that.

I'm am now a hypocrite for comparing facts to statements instead of automatically dismissing these men's statements out of hand.

Yeah, that's it.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
