You also have put things in context. Why on earth would you use the #1 overall pick on a quarterback if you're not going to be an offensive-minded, pass first team? It's idiotic. That's like the Colts drafting Luck and being focused on running and playing defense, and having him only pass a little bit while running the read option. See how stupid that is? Cam was not a passing QB coming out of college. He was brought in to make the offense more dynamic. If we didn't have legit RBs, how was all that read option stuff going to work? Again those contracts were bad anyways. Also, the Colts have been trying to get Luck a running game. Even traded their first round pick for a dud in Richardson.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Those contracts were huge though but a QB friend is a good running game. No one knew Stewart and DeAngelo were going to suck. If they were both playing at that 2009 level, that would have been one of the best weapons they got for Cam, including getting Olsen and Shockey.

Keep bringing up these stupid issues when Gettleman's priorities and positions are plain as day by his actions. He didn't believe Cam Newton was a franchise QB before he got here, he still doesn't, because if he did, Newton's protection would've been a top priority. THAT IS NOT AN OPINION. No GM in the league would ever make protecting a "franchise QB" a low priority. Not a one. Protecting Cam isn't a priority of Gettleman's, therefore, Gettleman doesn't really believe he's a franchise QB.

So they couldn't rethink their plan when they saw him pass for 4000 yards? If my QB is doing that i'm rolling with a passing offense. The hell with the read option. So Cam doesnt deserve an extension at this moment because he is not playing well? But it was perfectly okay to give Rivera an extension after one winning season? For the record I dont believe JR has as much say as I'm reading in this thread. He's too old. If he did, Steve would still be here and what happened, the WAY it happened, wouldn't have happened. Same goes for Hurney decisions. Steve comments on DG confirmed JR sit back and collect his money while kissing the NFL ass. When DG was asked about Cam he did pause. He was hesistant on everybody including Rivera. Last year they won him over that they can get it done. Decisions was made on part of Hurney and himself, we're sitting here at 3-5-1 as an effect

 

Cam performed better with a better oline and receiving corps (yes last year corp was better). And our defense performed better with a better secondary and better front four (no hardy this year). There's really nothing else to it
