Doubt inside BofA Cam is the future?

If you are talking about now, we have to wait until the season ends. My reply was pointing his statement that things will magically change if Cam had an 800yds rusher. I was saying he has had that since he has been here.

And in 2011 he led to the biggest offensive turnaround in NFL history. He just had the worst defense in the league then. 2012 was a mix of too much read option and injuries. 2013 we went to the playoffs. So he's done his job for the most part...

I don't understand what happened these past two weeks. Cam was playing great with injuries early in the season. The line was better but not much.

My theory is him trusting his ankle more. Now that he can move, he knows he does not have to sit in the pocket to potentially take a hit. He may have to go back to working on setting his feet before throwing etc.

I meant Williams. You said Cam needs an 800yds rusher, well he has had that since he's been here. What else does he need now that you know that?

It's actually interesting that in arguing for more weapons for Cam, you don't even know what he has or has had.

You know I mean a consistent threat where Cam isn't the most feared runner on the team.

Cam running should be a wrinkle in the offense not a base.

We need a under center down hill running game that doesn't need Cam to make most of the plays.

Bottom line is that before next year we need to have an offensive line and a new play caller so we can see if Newton is worth 100 million. Right now he doesn't have tools that he needs to win. But it also doesn't sound like he's going to take a short "prove it" deal for when we finally have the resources to win with him. So, this offseason is huge for Gettlemen to figure out how to get this team some talent.

Which is what you have to look at when building a team. Where to invest the resources to ensure continued success.

I agree.

I think Cam has already earned his next contract with his play and growth in leadership the last 3 years.

It's time for this team to invest in building around Cam. Like every other team does for their young QB.

Yeah, like not giving running backs a buttload of money and using that money to give your QB weapons and protection. That way the draft could have still been about defense without neglecting the offense...

Hindsight is always 20/20. Those contracts were huge though but a QB friend is a good running game. No one knew Stewart and DeAngelo were going to suck. If they were both playing at that 2009 level, that would have been one of the best weapons they got for Cam, including getting Olsen and Shockey.

The fact of the matter is running backs aren't THAT valuable. Nevermind neither one could even muster 1000 yards. And i remember those early games when Cam was passing alot. They barely did anything. It was as Cam started running more that they got more productive. If that's what Hurney and Rivera and Chud were banking on then they are bigger fools than i thought.

Sometimes you have to put things in context. It's been just recently that RBs are not being paid much. Back in the day, the top RBs were all signing big deals. "Value" positions are constantly changing in the NFL.

You also have put things in context. Why on earth would you use the #1 overall pick on a quarterback if you're not going to be an offensive-minded, pass first team? It's idiotic. That's like the Colts drafting Luck and being focused on running and playing defense, and having him only pass a little bit while running the read option. See how stupid that is? There was no point in drafting Cam if we're going to use him this way...

Shula is obviously a problem, but beyond that, Rivera has really done squat in developing his franchise QB. Ultimately Ron is the guy in charge of everything. He should know as well as anyone that if he is going to sustain a lengthy career as a head coach and win a Super Bowl then Cam is a once in a generation player in terms of potential and talent.

Since Cam got here it's been all leaning on Cam's attributes at all costs to win games rather than building an offense that can maximize his talents and take him to the next level as a quarterback instead of a weapon in the run game when our running backs can't get the job done, which is all too often unfortunately.

I'm not going to absolve Gettleman of blame, his decision making on the OL has really hampered us, but some of the things we are seeing on game days are things we were seeing before Gettleman took over. We are still getting outcoached more often than not, the team in general simply looks unprepared, and we are severely inept at making adjustments.
