Screwed on the curly light bulbs.

The free Duke Power ones I got have lasted a while.  The pack of 12 I bought at Lowes tended to burn out quickly.  Don't know if its a brand thing or not.  But I will likely continue to buy them, if only because its just a few bucks more.

I think you are using them wrong.

No, I know what you are saying.  CFLs aren't meant to be switched on and off frequently (I remember reading something to that effect).  True enough, the ones that we have left are the front and back porch lights and one in the garage, which stay on (or off) for long periods. I guess we have about six left now that I think about it. The color of light that they give off is awful though, but I'm sure that has more to do with the fact that they were giveaways which means they were probably the cheapest Duke could find.  All said though, LED is the way to go, soon enough.

I have had mixed reviews on them.

In a lamp where the bulbs are vertical, they tend to last longer, but sideways or upside down....not as much.

I think this is true.  We have a light in our kitchen where they're facing down and we had two brand new bulbs go out within a couple months.  But I have on in my bedside lamp that's going on like 4 years of use.

Agreed.

I have an even larger sample size....and it's noticeable for sure.
