Rivera: "Hardy should be in due to postponed trail"

Recommended Posts

if the league makes us pay the player, then he should play till the trial is over.  If he is found innocent , the league should give us a refund on what he was paid sitting out in a credit against the cap next year. If found guilty, his games sitting out should count against the punishment. It is up to the coaches after this year to sign him or release him next year.

Yup, I watched a documentary about public defenders and they all agree the system is designed to punish you for claiming innocence. Maybe it wasn't intended to work that way, but that's the reality of it.

In NC, most DV cases never get beyond the bench trial because the defendants can't afford to put their life on hold and pay a lawyer while they wait for a jury trial so they plead no contest to get it over with.

It's our own fault.  Everyone seems to throw a fit when summoned to Jury duty.  Sad that people have no interest in participating in our justice system knowing that it may one day be them falsely accused.

Hardy has played his last game here people....let it go

This could vey well be true. My question to the forum members, is which NFL team do you think  would be first to try to sign him and also how much would they be willing to pay him, considering all that's happened? Waiting on response's.

Citizens throwing a fit about jury duty really has nothing to do with it. Courts try to force people into plea deals so they don't have to do all the work of going to trial. It's not uncommon for a prosecutor to offer a 2-3 year deal if the person pleads guilty but threaten a 15-20 year sentence if the person claims innocence and goes to trial. Not only a threat of increased punishment, but of course lawyers can be extremely costly and trials drags on forever, which causes all kinds of problems.

The system does just about everything possible to get people to cave and forfeit their right to trial. The 6th amendment that guarantees citizens a right to a speedy trial has all but been taken away. NC is even worse than most places as they make you go through a separate bench trial first, a system that I don't even think is constitutionally legal.

Maybe it's because I don't own an nfl franchise or rake in millions every week from people stuffing chicken and biscuits down their throats, but I know damn well I would be pissed off if I had to pay an employee millions of dollars because there isn't a policy put in place. It seems that JR should be leading the charge for getting a policy put in place, especially since his product is being hurt by Goodell's incompetence. I'm sure there will be some back alley compensation from the NFL for this situation, but if JR wants to get the fan base fired up again during this losing streak and possibly gain a little respect back, he needs to stand up and do something. /rant

Just a reminder...the exempt list is up to Goodell. While you may believe that JR and RG made the decision together, technically the only way Hardy plays is if Goodell says he can.

Which he should

Goodell can't hold hardy on the list. The minute hardy applies for reinstatement Goodell will have to let him off or hardy can sue because you have to voluntarily go on the list. If he's not being suspended Goodell can't really do anything or hardy will win in a suit.

They should at least pay minimum wage to be there.

Every team knows he is innocent.. they are all capable of reading the facts of his preliminary trial even though there isn't a transcript. They all know, there isn't a group of 12 randoms in this state that are going to convict him. Unless they were all feminazi's and that's not going to happen

The Commissioner also has the authority to determine in advance whether a player's time on the Exempt List will be finite or will continue until the Commissioner deems the exemption should be lifted and the player returned to the Active List.
