If the Panthers want to play late Jan/early Feb. Sign a FA WR and DT ASAP!

The DT is obvious.

But WR we are thin. Moose is going to get single covered all year and the D is going to roll over to SS.

Jarrett, unless he really improves from last night to game 1 will be another in a long line of USC WR's that quite frankly suck.

If Davison doesn't want to hit guys out of the backfield the margin of error is razor thin with the WR's.

I'd wait til Preseason is over to at least see a bit more. I mean, Jonathan Stewart was absolutely pummeled by the Eagles in his first bit of action then exploded against the Redskins. That said, I'd give all these players more than one game to evaluate them.

Wait, last night was Jarrett's fault? Tell me which of those three or four throws were actually decent throws by Jake.

The fact that Jarrett was thrown too means something, now if Jake makes an accurate throw he will have a chance.

I love our depth at WR b/c of Chery and Beavers. But the problem is the talent up top. Aside from Smitty and Moose, no one else has proven they can make plays. It seems like Jarrett was getting separation, which was my main concern b/c he isn't very fast, so that's promising. But, he either dropped a few of those passes or the passes didn't get to him.

As you said, either he has to really step it up or we have to sign a quality guy that gets cut by a team deep at WR.

DT IS VERY OBVIOUS. Hayden sucks, Favorite is not very impressive, and we didn't get any pressure in the middle or even hold ground. It was like a giant hole right in the middle and the Giants knew it.

Replace that WR with another DT, and then I agree.. WR isn't at the top of our problems list.

I don't think we need just one DT, we really could use 2.... If we that 2nd one isn't better than Lewis, at least we have someone to sub in along with Favorite (and Hayden if it's mandatory)...

Damn I hope Favorite fills in really good this year, although I won't be getting my hopes up on such a huge contribution for a rook DT...

I'm not worried about WR. DT looks atrocious and DE was very underwhelming.

I agree completely. I watched the game again a few minutes ago and Peppers was getting completely taken out of plays. One time by a freakin tight end. I also expected Hilee Taylor to do more against the fourth teamers, I know he had a sack but he should of been more active later in the game.

One thing I was thinking was that Jeremy Lehman might make Landon Johnson expendable. I don't know the cap hit we would get in trading or releasing him but after watching that game again Lehman was even better than the first time. He was all over the place and tackles really well.

The wide receivers won't be a problem. I think Moore will be a great slot receiver if Jarrett doesn't play well although he didn't get a chance to show anything last night.

    • While we're talking a fresh prospect that I happen to be a fan of, might as well get on a soapbox: Point 1 - He is not undersized by any means, his length is far above the mean His wingspan is in like the 85th percentile. An interesting note - his wingspan is 5 inches over Khalil Mack, 2 inches over Will Anderson's.  Only 1/2 inch away from the no-production yet size hyped 6'5 267 Shemar Stewart's. For comp - Ez's is around 83", arm length 34".  For NFL comp, the mean for wingspan is 80" and arms 33.5" at for starting EDGE defenders.  So it's not just my isolated comparisons. Point 2 - He isn't just a flashy "pass rush specialist" His film (and testing) shows elite quickness, hand work, and ability to play with the heads of OTs that normal prospects don't grasp. (see my prior post) Testing wise, one of the fastest 3-cones and short shuttles for an edge in years.  Fastest this year for both -- and those two drills are the ones teams look at for pass rushers, usually very indicative of success.  His quickness is off the charts. He's a guy that played well, showed well to those casually watching and those film-studying.  Then he goes out and tests well to back it up.  Apparently interviews super well.  So, I think it's all about his capacity/potential as a run defender.  That's really what it comes down to.  Can he be a 3-down guy or is he a specialist?  I see a 3-downer, his run defense is better than given credit for. A breakdown Ez vs. the NFL mean Arm Length: 34" vs. 33.5" (over) Wingspan: 83" vs. 80" (over) 3-Cone: 6.94 sec vs. 7.23 (WELL over, 95 percentile) Short Shuttle: 4.19 vs. 4.424 (over) Height: 6'2 1/2 vs. 6'3 (slight under) People look at the height a smidge under 6'3 and take that without considering the rest.   I think with Ez, it all comes down to what teams think his run defense upside is.  All it takes is one team - if they think he can become more that a passing down guy, then he could go high.  But if guys like Nik Bonitto and Haason Reddick can turn into these all-arounders, I don't see why this kid can't either who has higher pedigree and better measurables. Now, I prefer Graham, Walker inside, Will Johnson, Barron, and some others over him, but once we're in this tier outside of the top guys, I find the argument way more compelling for Ez over a Mykel Williams or Shemar Stewart.
    • Well if we’re bringing this guy with character issues in for a visit why not consider Mike Green at 8!?
