What trajectory? He's had three bad games against three playoff teams, one being the former number 1 defense and SB champs.

Did the Bengals, Lions, bears games not happen? What about last year, the year before that, and the year before that?

They're not to blame for issues that he's had on his own.

 

But if you wanna correct those issues, you can't do it while you have him standing in the middle of a shooting gallery.  You might as well be asking a dancer to learn a routine while you're shooting tennis balls at her.

You have to understand the effect of constant pressure here, though.

One, a quarterback starts feeling pressure whether it's actually there or not. Newton's done that a lot tonight.

Two, never having time to throw screws with his mechanics by reinforcing bad habits, It effectively nullifies all the efforts you've made to coach those things out of him.

Playing for years behind a lousy line pretty much destroyed David Carr. And while I wouldn't say Newton is ruined just yet, you can easily tell it's affecting him.

I can't imagine he has much if any confidence in his line and why should he? Like you said at some point it's going to start to creep in the back of his mind. He's human.

Same can be said for the WR's, yeah Cam threw a couple high balls (I'm not blind) but every single one of them let him down tonight. At what point does he just say "f*ck this"? He's a 4th year quaterback that's always felt like he's had to do everything on offense, that's not fair either.

#1 defense? Dude, the Seahawks had one of the worst passing defenses going into that game. The Saints today had one of the worst passing defenses going into this game. And again, Cam will have his HUGE games here and there just like Vick used to have, but he will never be consistent enough as a passer.
