David Foucault Starting at Left Tackle

People remember the dozen or so times Bell has screwed up but he's started every game this season and played almost every snap.  He held up very well for 90% of those plays.  He doesn't get beat every time he lines up.  He's not nearly as bad as people think.  He's played well enough for us to win some games.

 

I'm not saying he's a great LT but he's no where near as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

 

I really hope Faucault excels and does a great job but an undrafted rookie who was playing in Canada last year does not feel me with great joy. 

 

I'm much rather have Bell starting.

Foucault is going to tear poo up. The only sacks that their DEs will see is Foucault's when he's tea-bagging them after repeated pancakes.

Bell is one of the worst starting tackles according to PFF in both run and pass blocking.

I think Foucault could potentially be better in the run game.  Let's see if we can get the run game going.  It will only help in pass pro.

 

You gotta hand it to Foucault though.  From crap Canadian team, to NFL tryout, to starting at LT protecting Cam Newton. That's quite an accomplishment and something he should always be proud of.

Our only hope is Shula adjusting the gameplan to help out (shorter, quicker drops).

I really hope I'm wrong but take away the names and ask yourself who would you rather have starting at LT.

Be careful what you wish for.  Bell has given up some huge plays and I'm really thankful we have a mobile QB.  We have to improve at both tackles spots.  There is no question.  Despite the popular belief we can't replace Bell with any stranger off the street.  The fact that Faucault is getting the start and that we have not brought in any competition Bell should really tell you the status of what's available out there. 

 

The cupboard is completely bare but at least Bell is a jar of peanut butter.  Hard to live off of in the long term.  Hard to swallow but it's better than the alternative.

Or you could say according to PFF Byron Bell is one of the best 32 tackles in the NFL and therefore the world.

It really is as simple as putting a hand or two on a defender to prevent a free run at Cam.

If DF can pull that off it is a major upgrade.
