This week on "Things an old man probably shouldn't try"...

My girlfriend's daughter / my future daughter is kind of a unique personality.  She has a lot of 'typical teenage girl' traits but is definitely her own oddball self (it's one of the things I love about her).

One of her quirks is that she's occasionally taken with odd whims, such as one day while she was walking with her boyfriend on a small hill she stopped and said "I've never rolled down a hill before" and promptly did so

That came to mind this weekend as she, her mom and I were walking back from something and she spied another small hill.  Upon which she turned to me and said 'Bet I could beat you up that hill".

"Bet you can't", I replied, and it was on.

To clarify, this was not a smooth hill.  It actually had a lot of brush on it and a significant number of small bushes.  But I agreed anyway.

We raced.  I won!

Her excuse was that I was faster than she thought I'd be.  "Ten years of football, six years of track and three of tae kwon do" I said, enjoying my victory.

But victory has its price.

I tripped two or three times going up the hill.  Still managed to recover and win the race, but as a result got somewhere from six to ten small scratches and cuts all over my hands and forearms, the kind you get from scratching against a tree or a hedge.  Those kind can get sore real easily.

But hey, I got bragging rights, so it was worth it :D

(sort of)
