Need to buy an iMac for work... *cries*

At my new job we use Final Cut Pro X and this video editing software is exclusive to Mac. I only go to the studio once a week for meetings and stuff. So for the most part I will be working from home away from the studio so I will need a rig. Now this is my first time using Mac and I will be working with 4K footage so I need a pretty powerful desktop. There is only one problem..

HOLY poo THESE fugERS ARE EXPENSIVE!

At first I thought I could use my PC and export XMLs out of Premiere CC to FCPX but they don't have the same plugins so it can't work. Also to be honest after using FCPX for the first time I really like it. Premiere can be a real pain in the ass sometimes. So anyway this is where you Mac fanboys come in handy.

Now I understand I will need...

- A very fast processor.

- At least 16 GBs of RAM.

- A beast video card.

- Several portable hard drives upwards of 8 TBs.

I'm trying to find something that will fit into my limited budget of $2500. Please help me because right now it looks like I'm screwed.

Since you asked I went and looked on Apple about this...  I was just curious...  they basically force you into the larger monitor size for the faster processors...

You can get a 27" iMac with 16GB RAM, a 3.2 GHz processor, 3TB HDD and that software for right at $2500... so if that's your budget, it slips right in, but the disc space may be an issue.

Go with the 21.5" and a slightly slower processor and you may be able to get everything you want, but either way you'll have to make some compromises.

When you're video editing you want a very small internal HDD because you really won't be using it that much. However I need at least 8 TBs space from a Thunderbolt which is about $1500. That's where things get ridiculous. Also the new 21.5 inch displays can't be modified so that's out the window.  :(

If you can wait until Black Friday to buy it... Do so. May get a better price.

At least on the external HDDs for sure.

I need to get one this week so I can get to work. This freaking blows. Jeremy needs to start a fund for me.
