Would you favor going West Coast?

Like I said, with my limited football knowledge, Air Coryell means to me that we like to pass the ball through the air alot or something to that effect. Well, we ain't doing that now and we are still running Air Coryell under Shula? Looks like two different offenses to me

Biggest difference:

Coryell: Power run game, take big shots down the field with TE's and WR's.  Make teams defend vertically and not know if they should bring in extra run or pass defenders.

WCO:  Pass first, but need WR's, RB's and TE's to a lesser extent who can get YAC, and are skilled ball catchers.  Make defenses defend the field not only vertically (not as often), but also horizontally (more often in this O)

How long and how much money or resources would it take in order to rebuild an oL in order to suit the Air Coryell?Would Cams big arm and unmatched mobility better be suited for the WCO?either or,you have to build around your franchise QBs talents and if in fact not, then you are stunting his growth and the teams and basically, playing second fiddle, imo.

Every OC puts their own stamp on an offensive system.

Chudzinski's stamp was very pass happy, lots of trickery (he outsmarted himself a lot) and a little 'out there'.

Chud was basically Cam Cameron Jr.. Cameron had the same penchant for trickery during his run in San Diego. Tomlinson the passer made him look better than he was at times with those plays. I still think an edited Chud would be a very good OC.

I would much rather see the Panthers switch to the Erhardt Perkins by developing a better running back situation.  This could allow Newton to make much better calls at the line while audibling to his choice of plays.  Right now the problem seems to be Newton is carrying the entire offense.

Since SD has gone E-P, I've become the biggest fanboy of it. It's a much freer offense for the QB at the LOS, especially with play calling. During the Norv era, it seemed like PR burned quite a few timeouts due to playcall issues late in the play clock - something that would also plague Kurt Warner when he was running Martz's O. In the EP, it seems like when PR notices any issues due to the D he can make the right audibles (in playcalling or protection) without worrying about delay of game issues.

Also a good run EP doesn't need the stoutest line if your QB is making the right reads and making the best throws, taking what the D gives him.

you have to have a commitment to the run even when it is filing in the EP offense. Not many coaches are that bold or mindful of that fact. Riveria gets flustered late in the game and I don't know he could handle EP

I see Dorsey doing well with sep in his future. He is talented and I'd love to see him coaching with Reich.

I'm a Coryell fan, but I could definitely see going E-P.

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
