Would you favor going West Coast?

still disagree it was WCO.  Still believe it was Coryell, just not good talent for it.

What most people here will discuss will be football philosophy, but what's really being discussed is approach to those offenses.   Take Jeff Davidson, versus Bill Belichick's Pats around that same time, roughly 08.  Same offense.   Until '11, no one had ever really run that spread of a Coryell, and all of a sudden a lot of the stuff Carolina was doing was spread.

What's here, in this same offense, can be run somewhat better, sure.  More efficient.  Line play hinders some of that.  You can pass shorter, you can stop huddling, whatever you want to do, in whichever offense.  I'd prefer to keep the best fit for KB and Olsen as opposed to going to a new philosophy, but Andy Reid taught the Bang-8 the same that Mike Martz did.

If it were me, designing for Cam and those two, I'd leave the O the same more or less, and I like Shula's formation disguises.  I'd use the Chip Kelly keys for run/pass based on what's in the box and keep stressing packaged plays.

We've had that discussion before, I know.

We looked at Pat Shurmur as an OC candidate this past offseason and he's now getting some head coach buzz again.  What's your take on that?

I think it would be worth a shot, think it would be a good fit for Cam... However I think it's very unlikely to happen. I wouldn't mind prying Shurmur from philly or Malzahn from Auburn.

The design of the routes and the amount of time work more for AC.

But you need 3-4 very good wrs. None of which are possession guys.

John Jefferson was one of my all time fav players.

Stretch the field and a great rb that can catch.

I think the orig WCO can work better than the spread/read option.

Whoever decides to implement whatever needs to do it in pretty quick order.

Cam Newton is in the 4th year of his 5-year rookie contract... and he's no longer a rookie. And he's no longer a lock to stay in Carolina as long as this organization continues to surround him with crap.

that was an odd fit, for him to stay.  Him having knowledge of the NFL and with Kelly's O, together, is an interesting package.  He's dogshit as a head coach and he's already an OC, so it's not an option.

Does anyone remember the classic quote from Dom Capers before he was fired when asked about the WCO?  It was funny, both what he said and how he said it, something like "just because you call the thing west coast doesn't mean it's high powered or anything, it's the personnel on the field that make the thing go."

Can we get Malzahn in here as a HC or hell even a different OC would be nice at this point.

Gus would be an interesting choice as a head coach (I liked that his style of spread was wing-T based), if there was an opening.  I don't buy that there will be, and Gus makes about what Ron does right now.

Gus' hiring here might make people's heads explode, given that it possibly means the new OC would be Dameyune Craig.

I do remember that.  He sounded dumb saying it, too. Four games later the doofus fired Collins.

And yet, there's something to that, of course.

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
