Mr. Scot you are dead on.

So we have the timeline right.

Gettleman arrives.   Defense is a shiv.  We couldn't stop a baby stroll rolling across the street.

Year 1.  Builds a top 5 defense overnight.   Offense hangs in and the Panthers win the NFC South.

Year 2.  Adds a potential ROY WR a potential replacement for Hardy if he walks in 2015 and a solid Guard.  Not to mention 3 or 4 solid later round and UDFAs.   Offers a solid contract to a LT but chooses another team.  Other OT have their hand out of a big check but Wisely Gettleman declines to give it to them.   RIVERA and GETTLEMAN Agree that Bell and Chandler will be good enough for the upcoming season.

All this with Chump Change in his pocket.  It isn't as if he had big bucks to throw around and get an OT that was worth a damn.

It has been one hellava rollercoaster ride with our O-Line and Gettleman and Rivera are biting their nails hoping this line can hold up.  You cannot believe that the O-line has been totally ignored.   Injuries have played a huge part but we aren't dead in the water. Norwell seems to have shown he is a diamond in the rough.  Kalil is Kalil.  We'll have Turner back.   Hopefully Bell can suck it up for one more game and than have 11 days to heal before we go to Philly.

I have said this before and I'll say it again.  Gettleman has a plan, you have to give him a chance to get us out of Cap Hell.   Once we are out and if things continually are ignored. Than, I would be on the bandwagon with the rest of you Gettleman haters. But for now.  I feel his pain,  I know he wants to address it but resists at all costs for our future.

Last thing I want to see is new threads saying Gettleman is no different than Hurney.

It's painful as hell to watch but in the end we will be praising Gettleman.  Watch and See

Can I just say thank you for seeing the big picture and not being a complete fuging retard like many fans seem to be right now?

Gettleman and Rivera can't afford to misjudge talent/players next season if we have a losing season this year...

Gettleman's "No cap room" excuse only works for not being able to re-sign players like Mitchell or sign a LT like Collins...not for signing scrubs like Grandpa Harper or extending Chandler

Like I said last week: "Blame it on Hurney" is not quite sufficient anymore.

Look, I like Gettleman and I absolutely believe that he deserves 2-3 years (unless it becomes apparent that he is absolutely fuging up), but I am not a G-man apologist.  Sure he came into horrible cap situation, but this doesn't completely explain our current woes.

He did a little magic last year, and made some decent moves to get us almost to the brink, but this year his moves have not panned out and it's arguable that he basically just whiffed in free agency, and particularly late in the draft.  I realize that people are spinning it how they want, including myself, but your timeline did not mention all the facts.

1. He basically pissed Gross off over money which was the impetus for his retirement (which may have ultimately lead to Wharton's retirement).
2. He axed Steve Smith, whom he could have kept for this year without much financial pain
3. He, rightly or wrongly, decided to tag Hardy as opposed to going after better value (or even Band-Aids) at DE, basically handcuffing himself from making moves in FA (particularly at the LT position).
4. He made some questionable moves in the draft---particularly in the later rounds (where Super Bowls are won according to Giants GM, Jerry Reese)

Let's not be Gettleman apologists to the point where we just forget all the sides of the equation.  And some of the problems with our team right now were easily forecast by many fans and analysts alike.  I don't know why some of you are trying to act like problems on the O-line, defensive backfield and at WR are a surprise.  They are not.  But, like I said, he deserves a couple of more years to work his "plan" in light of the cap situation.  I like some of his moves, but have been dumbfounded by others, and I am not necessarily talking about big, earth shattering moves that are not conducive to our cap-strapped situation, but moves that could have arguably fit within our situation but also more aggressively filled needs.  But, he's the pro, so I have to assume that he'll ultimately get it together, even if we do have to take a step back.

There isn't a GM in this league that hasn't had a free agent or draftee not pan out.  It is part of the business.   You take a chance and hopefully it works out like you planned.

Sure we can sit here and second guess all his moves.   But had they panned out like last year than nothing would be said.

I agree DeCoud and Harper haven't been stellar like Mitchell and Ginn were.   It happens.

There is no way in hell anyone can blame Gettleman for this mess.

I saw his intent.  Keep Hardy and I would bet we have a pass rush that was like last year.  Our defense would have been much better and Hardy proves his worth.   Ironically, I believe without him proves his worth more.

I don't consider it being apologetic. I am just not ready to blame him for all that has been given to him.

Our first 2 games, our D looked all world.

Without Hardy and a pass rush, we stunk up the next several games.

Finally saw a bit of a pass rush again this week.

If Hardy had still been playing, I think we would have won at least a couple more games if not 3

Our defense sucked Cam's rookie year and offense was pretty good.

We HAD to build defense first. We had no other choice except continue being a high scoring offense that gave up 30 a game and losing

I am a Cam homer but I swear some of you guys make me really think you would rather have everything built around our offense rather than have a well rounded team

Pretty much.

Cam can mask some weak OL play. Gettleman thought that with our defense, Cam would only have to score 14-21 per game and still win. He was hoping that Bell and Chandler could be a stopgap until he had some cap space or until he could draft an OT that he liked. He misjudged. Hell, he might have been right if Hardy were playing, but this notion that we would be golden with Morgan Moses and James fuging Hurst that everyone keeps spouting is idiotic.

I knew that was "Gettleman and Rivera's" mindset way back when they ignored the Offensive line, which, last time I checked, is way before I started this thread, yet I started it anyway, so obviously, I don't accept that excuse.

P.S. I already knew that you all did accept it, which is why I started it with the tone that I did.

Never assume that I don't know what you already think on Panthers-related issues. The end.

We can at least agree on not blaming him for everything.

He does get some blame though. There is no way around it.

He'll get the opportunity to fix things though.

Your comment about Gross is categorically incorrect (my neighbor is a close friend of Gross and told me the year before that Gross was likely retiring).  Gross was talking about retirement the year before the restructure.  He had already made up his mind.  He reworked the contract to help the Panthers....it was NOT a reason that he left.
