R.R. defends Bell & Chandler at presser

Man I hope he isn't defending them just because those are the players he convinced Gettlemen were good enough to start. He doesn't mind blaming some other players for not executing the play calls. He also convinced Gettlemen that Shula was worthy of OC and doesn't have any problem with the play calling. Hmm.

Edit: I keep getting my years mixed up was Gettlemen here when Chud left and we promoted Shula?

Who says Rivera is not chewing on them every day in practice and riding them.  The assumption here seems to be that if he isn't calling them out then he is approving of their work and happy with them.  That is stupid logic.  Just because you don't call out folks in public doesn't mean you don't in private. I personally hate coaches who do their business in press conferences instead of behind closed doors. Rivera is doing the best he can with what he is being given.  I promise you he isn't fine with it.

Yeah because we all know that Gettleman is not a film guy and doesn't evaluate the players himself.  He always counts on other people's opinion to make up his minds.

Gettleman is in charge and is making the personnel decisions not Rivera from everything I have read or heard.  Rivera may have input but Gettleman has final say and he has said that on many occasions.

He has final say, but he has openly said that he wants everyone to have input and agree with decision. Its in one of his earlier interviews.

If Bell is our starting LT next year I have lost all faith in Nippleshorts

Let's say we draft a tackle in the first. Is he going to be ready for LT? Everyone thinks a trash can could block better than Bell but be careful what you wish for.

If we draft a tackle, I think Bell starts at one of the two spots. If we don't draft anyone you could see some veterans brought in.

Gettleman believes first round picks are starters.

I could see a stopgap/mentor being signed in free agency if needed.

No way I can imagine Bell starting again next year.

It's pretty common for Tackles to start their career on the Right side. Admittedly Bell would be less talented. But he does know the offense at least.

I really wonder what future Faucalt has. To me he is a Canadian Byron Bell. Chandler has a modest contract for two more seasons. Bell might be out if only because the Panthers have nothing committed to him next season. But Bell is clearly better than Chandler.

As a manager, if my team performs poorly it is my fault. I am the one that built the team, I am the one that trained the team, and I am the one that is making the decisions. If they are unable to perform, it is due to my inability to properly train or evaluate them. While I might chew their ass out behind closed doors, I respect them as adults and would never dream of publicly humiliating/belittling them. In my opinion, a strong manager/leader redirects all praise to those that work for him and blames themselves for all shortcomings. What has bothered me the most about Rivera is his lack of aggression in all 3 phases of the game (despite this being his main talking point when he was hired) and unwillingness to throw himself onto the sword for his team.

The problem with that analogy is that it assumes everyone is equal and the thing that makes the difference is training and decision making . In the NFL though talent is a huge factor which can't be taught just like size or speed. So a guy like Bell for example may not have the physical ability plain and simple so no matter of training will get him over the hump. So your analogy is really useless.

As for him not being aggressive he is considered one of the aggressive head coaches with his going for it on 4th down which he still does more than other coaches. Plus he takes ownership for all decisions whether he made them or not.. Again you seem way off base.
