But if you agree that 1) he wants to win and 2) he wants to make more money - and all this acknowledging that he knows his time left on earth is short - then where's the incentive to just sit back and do nothing?

I can't explain it Scot, but look at our history. Look at our culture... winning franchises don't go into a season with their franchise QB unprotected. They don't hold onto guys like Godfrey for as long as we did. They don't pile up defensive players for depth while ignoring skill players to surround their franchise QB, in fact, many are now doing the very opposite.

Comparing Rivera to John Fox or Dom Capers cant happen. Dom Capers had a ten year contract....

First, when was the last time you heard of a coach getting that kind of extension/contract. JR and Dom both knew he wouldn't even come close to seeing that unless he became the next Belicheat. He literally would have been our HC the year Deangelo Williams was drafted. JR realized the mistake and fixed it asap.

John Fox was our HC for two years when he got to the Super Bowl. He also had two NFC championship apperances. That buys you alot of time as a HC and honestly it was the most success we had as an organization.

Rivera had some success last year, unless he gets let go ala Marty Scottenhimer in San Diego after a 13-3 season, he isnt going anywhere this year. He showed that he can put a winning product on the field. If we have this again next year I can see him going away, but he has either OC or DC be his scapegoat by years end.

Also, because of PSLs JR wont see a dent in sales unless people stop resigning on their deals. He basically already knows how season ticket sales are going to be back in June/July. People could not show up and the game is still "sold out". They said a stat yesterday that we have and hundred and something sold out home games. Do people actually believe that? That takes it back to almost 2000. Ive been in that stadium multiple times and it not be sold out but because of PSLs it is.

It's the difference between desire and ability.

Just because someone wants to win doesn't mean they know how to do it.

Nobody with any acquaintance whatsoever with Jerry Richardson would take seriously the notion that he doesn't care about winning. But obviously, he hasn't won it all or built a consistent winner.

Bottom Line: Question the execution, not the desire.

Absolutely. I've said it a million times in all of the "fire _____" threads... JR is not going to pay him to sit at home. We're stuck with him.

Funny thing is, even when he made Hurney a sacrificial lamb, the only reason he did it was because reportedly Hurney was working for free lol.

 

He was working on one-year deals a la Darrelle Revis which he requested not to be released to the press.

Also it is also kind of a testament to our franchise consistently fielding a competitive team, even if not consistently winning.

Exchange Rivera with "insert name" wouldn't have a prettier picture here considering the building project and temporary parts we have for now. We had a great run last year. We have more to fix after retirements and roster shakeups than could be handled in one off season. Throw in our injuries, thin depth, some trashy play out of a normally solid defense, Cam in recovery mode, and the Hardy situation and I'm not surprised we are reeling. I'm not gonna freak out. Eight to go, suck it up and do the work team.

I love Big Cat, but I am disappointed that he'll cry over a coked up club skank rather than the team that he gutted.

We'll likely see a position coach lose their job before they even think about cutting Shula, let alone Rivera.
