Mid-Field playcalling vs Red Zone playcalling

To be fair, is there any scheming that could make this personnel group look good?

The Emory and Henry offense?

Either way, I don't think the playcalling between the 20s is bad, other than that double screen that seems to have no rhyme or reason for its inclusion, and his playcalling in the RZ wasn't actually that terrible, the offense failed to execute every time.  Most of it being Foucaults fault.

That Olsen is our worst player after the catch is a huge misconception among Panthers fans. Go back and look at the numbers. They do not support this claim.

Kelvin is the worst.

And Olsen is decebt a fter the catch. Olsen just goes down at any contact. He isn't shifty but he has good speed and vision IMO.

Kelvin is oddly bad after the catch. He almost has zero yards on the season

To be fair, it is valid to say that Olsen doesn't break a lot of tackles.

It's absolutely fair, but broken tackles don't always mean yards after the catch. Smitty had a pretty good year last year in terms of broken tackles--I'm at work and too lazy to look it up but the info is on PFF. Smith was near the top of the league--still, Smith had the fewest YAC and lowest average YAC on the team last year.

Greg doesn't break a lot of tackles but he runs good routes and is excellent at reading defenses. Those factors allow him to catch the ball in open space and give him some room to run after the catch.

I still say it's a common misconception.

I hate that when we have a good play we never go back to it, yet we will go back to some garbage plays over and over. Its like Shula thinks if it worked once we can never use it again.

i agree 100.   For example... the only thing working for us the previous two games were OLSEN!  Where was he this week?   Shula must have been thinking... you know it worked so they'll expect it this week.   What they won't expect is that we don't even throw it to him at all!  3rd and 13 Draw!

Yes, lots of quick slants, quick outs, anything with the word quick in it. They would thrive in that. With our OL we need to become a dink and dunk offense.

We don't have the personel for it. Cam isn't a dink and quick hitter QB. Would be like saying a dink and dunk QB can suddenly be a deep vertical pass QB.

We also have zero speed at WR. Those offensive work on YAC.

That seems to me to just be the nature of the plays that get called his way.  Most of KB's catches are either jump balls, outs, or if he does get a screen pass or something to the middle called to him he has someone on him as he's making the catch.  Maybe it's lack of separation off the snap or whatever, but he rarely gets the chance to juke someone or anything like that.  Don't think that's his game.  He does seem stronger than Olsen though, like when people are tackling him as he's catching, he usually drags them for an extra yard or two, so maybe it's worth it to try one of those double screen plays to him.  If for no other reason than because we haven't done it yet.

edit:  Olsen does have better vision, he's had a few plays during his time here where he picked a very good route after getting the ball and made big plays after the catch.  Last year, I think in the first Falcons game, is one example.

At least we'd be getting the C part of YAC.  Don't necessarily need speed when you have size, I'll take 6-10 yards a play throwing to Olsen and Benjamin all day.  Avant and Cotchery can often get those medium outs too, can sprinkle those in.

They're not car parts that only fit in one car. Our receiving corps isn't a Coryell Corps, it's a "Bunch of Old #4s with a Rookie and Good TE" corps.

West Coast type offenses need speedy, elusive receivers who get a lot of yards after the catch.

Do you see anyone like that on our squad?
