Cam's first-down celebrations really bother a lot of people. Why?

Is this a generational thing? My dad has never once criticized Cam until he told me how much he hates his first-down celebrations out of the blue yesterday. People at the office are ripping him for it. Even Jim Celania who we all love and who loves Cam was calling Cam out for the first-down finger point.

Am I the only one that truly doesn't get the big deal about it at all? People seem to not care about that at all as long as we're winning. The second we lose and/or Cam doesn't play well, it's all about how awful the first-down celebration is.

This is Year 4. Is this something Cam needs to get rid of like the towel over the head to appease the haters?

We all know if we are taking about Aaron Rodgers it's all fine. Hmm wonder why?

Damn bunch of HYPOCRITES. Always believing u need to teach the black man how to act because ur behavior is so much better.

You know as a white guy who is definitely not some race baiter, I have to agree with you on that quote. I have thought that for a while, but couldn't figure out how I wanted to say it. I think you hit it out of the park with those 2 sentences. Honestly, you could have made your point just with those 2 sentences. Good job.

Players throughout the league do it.

Cam isn't allowed to do it.

Why you ask?

Because Cam, duh.

It bothers me because he's the QB of the team. The 5-10 seconds or longer it takes him to do it, he could be spending that time working on the next play. I also don't like him chewing gum as he plays, safety reasons. Of course in all, he does a lot of things that aren't really necessary. I know he's a free spirit, but he's also a developing player. I would like to see him master his craft before doing all these other things.

Holy poo, I haven't seen a "Cam shouldn't have fun until he masters his craft" post in AGES.

Thanks for the hilarious nostalgia!

My God.

I'm this close to banning myself.

The e insecurity is astounding. Some of you are more worried about public perception than the Kardashians.

And then there are people who make idle threats that they never intend to follow through on.

Those wussies are some whiney sons-a-guns, don't you think?

Well.... as one of the old guys on this board who doesn't necessarily agree with many of you, here's my thoughts:

1. Cam got up and took his first down pose more times than the Panthers scored... not a good thing. It's kinda like Lamar Houston (Chicago Bears DE) who blew his knee out in celebration of a sack on Tom Brady in a blow-out loss. It doesn't look good when you're celebrating and not winning.

2. Act like you've been there has always been my mantra. One of the baddest teams to ever set foot on a football field during the 70-80's was the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders and you never saw the taunting and finger pointing and celebration. They simply beat the crap outta you and walked away to line up and do it again.

3. When you belong to a winning franchise, when winning is the accepted standard, you don't see this behavior from players who have achieved that level of success. Teams who are desperate for a win, teams who do not enjoy the winning culture within the locker room and among the fan base are those who find the smallest things to celebrate... like first downs.

Well, as a fellow old guy, let me tell you you are full of crap with #1 and #3.

You're comparing a little point with a finger to a guy tearing his ACL? Really?

And you don't see people doing this stuff in "winning organizations"? Well, you must not watch much football outside of the Panthers because you couldn't be more wrong. Hell, there's multiple examples proving you wrong in this thread alone.

Now #2? Yeah... I loved those Raider teams. Ted "The Stork" Hendricks. Lester "The Molester" Hayes. Jack Tatum. Otis Sistrunk. Loved'em. Hard nosed football.

But you may have noticed, times change. Institutions change. People change. Sports change. It ain't the 70's anymore. Hell, these days even the damn World Chess Champion isn't from Russia! And he's actually young and has A PERSONALITY! Oh no! Where'd all our boring, stoic Soviets/Russians go? THE GAME IS RUINED.

So you keep on grabbing on to the hands of the clock trying to stop the progress of time, old man. rabblerabblerabbledamnkids

Me? I'm out here having a good time myself and thrilled that many young people, like Cam, are having some harmless fun.

If Cam had played at Alabama, would you still be defending everything Cam as vigorously?

Would LOVE for Cam to have Amari Cooper to throw to next year.

Does that answer your question?

College is college. NFL is NFL.

The ONLY criticism I have of Bama players from an NFL standpoint is I think their DBs tend to be overrated, especially Saban's corners.

It is because year in, year out, Saban is churning out NFL kickers.  No time for the DB's

Thanks for taking the time to completely miss the point.

Yes I will say it and don't care whose feelings gets hurt.

You white folks irritation towards Cam is like the Elephant in the room that no one wants to honestly speak about. yes, we get it, Your behind only tolerate Cam because ur damn team NEEDS his talent. Some of u are so darn shallow it's not funny anymore. I am amazed at how peevish you are towards this kid. EVERYTHING HE DOES IRRATE U. ESPECIALLY WHEN UR TEAM DON'T win. Which says who u seriously blame for your team loses.

Leave the darn kid alone and let him be himself. No one is getting on that ugly ass QB name Luck. Where are all u white folks in and out of the media going to demand he shave that mess off of his face because he's a LEADER of a team. Damn young man looks like a darn Neanderthal with that mess on his face. He's already as goofy as hell without it.  Yet, every ish Cam does u white folks feel it's okay to attack, thanks to the majority of white folks in the media. But u barely have a darn thing to say about ur own.

Damn bunch of HYPOCRITES. Always believing u need to teach the black man how to act because ur behavior is so much better.

Also, the many dumb behind black folks who sit and allow the endless attack of this kid by the holier than tho white folks in the media, as if defending him is a not allowed. I guess their paycheck matters more.

I personally think it's more of a young/old thing than any kind of race thing. Maybe that's naive, but I've talked with several older African American fans at games who say they don't like it.
