@Mr. Scot - How long until you start preparing your Head Coach Candidate write-ups?

My short list looks something like:

Serious Candidates

Darrell Bevell

Brad Seely

Dave Toub

Retreads

Gary Kubiak

'What-The-Hell' Choices

Kyle Shanahan

Kevin Sumlin

Good list. I'd add Gus Malzahn and David Shaw as well.

I would be intrigued by Seely, Toub, or Shanahan. Shanahan has proven himself as a great offensive coach, and ST coaches are involved with players of all aspects (O, D, ST), which seems more conducive to HC duties.

It is too early to be discussing this. And like I said last week, I can't separate the coach from the lack of talent which is the GM's sole responsibility.  G-man has also been in the league long enough to know that Shula was not that deal when he allowed a relatively inexperienced Rivera to promote him.

all i know is NO MIKE SMITH!

Haven't figured out what happened to MS. When he got the Falcons, they became disciplined and on point. Now he makes the dumbest coaching mistakes that is permeating into the players. That loss was 2012 Panther-esque.

I think he's done in Atlanta.

The upcoming schedule is incredibly favorable. 4 wins are almost guaranteed.

I love the optimisim man, but Philadelphia is 5-2 and the Saints are coming off a big win. Granted, they won't be playing inside their dome on Thursday, but they almost always give us a tough game.

That's why I like Bevell.

It's well known that Jerry Richardson prefers defensive coaches, but Dave Gettleman is a big fan of Tom Coughlin, who's an offensive coach with two rings on his resume'.

The question is how much freedom Richardson will give Gettleman in the case of a head coaching search. As mentioned before, the release of Steve Smith suggests it could be a lot.

And the true issue arises

Our team is so inconsistent, one season, a power house on offense, the next a flop. Another season a jaggernaut on defense, the next a flop. That is a sign of someone who does not know what he is doing.

Nope, that's a sign of today's NFL.

That's why almost no team that wins the Superbowl can even get back to the playoffs.

Look at us, the 49'ers, the Seahawks.  We were all the best defenses in football and this year none of us are anywhere near what we were.

We're a different team than we were last year.  Literally.

How many new starters on the team?  How many injured players that are out?  How many retired or were put on the NFL special exempt list?

Hell, a few changes can make a difference and we're talking, what, 25% of the team is either been replaced or is injured.

One guy on the offensive line is in the same position.

All the WR are brand new.

We've been killed by the injury bug at RB. (Please Stu, stay healthy cause you're running like a beast.)

Lost one of the best DE in the game.

Replaced almost our entire secondary.

I'm not saying right or wrong.  I'm saying this isn't last years team.  It never is, year to year with any NFL team although this year for us is particularly bad.

We're got a much more favorable schedule the rest of the year (although I still worry about the Saints).  We all knew we were going to take some lumps to get the salary cap under control.  I've been impressed with how well we've done considering what we're working with, talent wise.

I see zero possibility of anyone getting a full control type deal, and no way in hell such an offer would go to a college coach.

I'm not convinced the Panthers would even look to the college ranks for a head coach, much less a GM.

Oh I know that it's a pipe dream and a half.  Especially the GM bit; just a wishin' and a hopin'.

We haven't tried the college coach thing yet so who's to say we wont if push comes to shove.

In the league right now, there's not many I like but the guy who continuously turns around OLs and is a big part of what made Kubiak and Denver-Shanahan is coaching with the Ravens: Rick Dennison.  I'd do a Kubiak HC / Dennison OC deal.

Richardson interviewed Spurrier when he jumped to the pros. It was reportedly an unmitigated disaster.
