Troubling comment from Rivera

According to Zod, Rivera said "he doesn't know why Olsen wasn't more involved in the game plan". I find that one of the most disturbing comments from this head coach in a while. I see some head coaches on the sidelines actually calling plays and this guy is the complete opposite. So Shula is devising game plans while Rivera has zero input and no interest? There is something wrong with that picture. Does he not sit in on the offensive meetings at all? Not to know what the game plan will be on BOTH sides of the ball is absurd. I am not sure about his management skills anymore.

Yup it baffles me too. Countless times they show Rivera on the sideline and he is just staring with no emotion or clue as to what is unfolding on the field. I think our biggest problem is the inability to adjust or adapt on the fly. Both Shula and Rivera have shown nothing to me in this regard. Olsen every time I keyed on him this game I saw him in the backfield blocking which isn't even his strong suit. How about we put B. Williams in the backfield so he can block and actually get Olsen, our best receiver, involved in the passing game.

This is why you look for a guy that has experience in diff departments of a football team. Offense and defense, and/or special teams. Ron is a DC who doesn't know jack poo about offense. Make sense why he think Shula is good enough. But anybody with a football brain can see he's not the answer

This isn't shocking that he's more or less not involved at all in the offense.  He pretty much stated when we first hired him, the OC would be the one calling the shots and he would just look over his shoulder.

He likely said that bc he didn't want to just completely throw Shula under the bus. Rivera is not an offensive coach which is even more of a reason that we need a stronger offensive coordinator. He isn't going to add much to that aspect of the gameplan.

Truthfully, I look for Rivera to make decisions having to do with game management more than I look for him to devise an offensive gameplan. Nobody is expecting Sean Payton to have a say in the defense when the Saints play. I see it the same way for Rivera. This is on Shula, Dorsey, and Cam as of now.

Well he probably doesn't know and probably won't until he looks at the tape.

It could have been schematic by defense to take Olsen out of the game and make others beat them.

Could have been he was open but Cam didn't find him.

Could have been nature of route combinations.

Maybe Olsen wasn't getting open because his ankle was hurting him.

Who knows. Sometimes asking a coach "why" something happened right after the game is a stupid question

I find it very hard to believe. That a vet of the nfl like RR has no clue what is going on ,on he field. I also equate the lack of emotion evidence to cam putting towel over his head .meaningless!

That's it, that statement just summed up all the problems. Got a coach that don't know poo about a offense and Shula got full control of the offensive game plan and the offense line up. That's why the gameplay is the same every game and never have any adjustments. That's explains why Rivera always put so much on the defense and only trust the defense. Both needs to be replaced.

    • Scary how bad the TMJ and Mingo picks were and how similar the XL pick seems to be. We’ve seen how Coker and Thielen and heck even Diontae were able to have great games with Bryce and yet we seem to draft these RAC, big, athletic projects instead of guys like Downs and McConkey. It’s almost bizarre but it seems like we got the worst of the Seattle brain trust that just want to find the next Wilson or Metcalf or ignore the OL until it physically hurts. It takes too long even when we finally do something right and then you realize we’ve got a good OL but now we give up 30 points per game. This draft better be a multi-bagger.
    • Honestly, every year I watch less closely as I think they are less and less informative of how successful a player will be. Combine superstars who go on to have successful in the pros usually already had success in college.
