Sherman on KB

@jjones9: Sherman on Benjamin: We were there in coverage &we were right on top of him. He made plays. He's going to grow...and do well in this league

I was hoping he'd say something like this after today's game. KB had a solid game today matched up against Sherman

Just imagine... had he caught that TD, we most likely would've won AND everyone would be talking about him. Instead, the only reason our game will be mentioned is that it "turned around Seattle's season."

Yep, he should've had it too. But he's a rookie and that stuff is going to happen. That's why I want another WR brought in, take off some of the pressure on KB

I know KB has a lot to learn, but it really does seem like we are underutilizing him, especially in the red zone and short/medium yardage situations.  One would think we could get him 6-8 targets a game from just running 10 yards and turning around since there wouldn't really be anything the defense could do about it and it wouldn't require our oline to pass protect any better than they are currently doing.

I've actively tried to avoid the subject for a few weeks now, but I have to say...  We HAD that WR on the roster until Gettleman decided he was no longer essential.

i don't think benjamin is under enough pressure.

the more i see benjamin play, the more i'm convinced he would really benefit from having the offense put on his shoulders.

the next offensive play after him missing the sure td catch should have been another pass right to him.

Agreed. When I said pressure I meant defenses game planning for him, Sherman covering him type thing. If we brought in a guy like VJax, Benji would then come out 1B receiver and have things open up for him a bit. I think it'd really help his development as well.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
