I guess my son was right about LaFell. Just another missed opportunity

lafell is now brady's #1 guy.  he has been impressive for us.  he gets separation and runs crisp route.  he struggled early, but we struggled as a whole because we couldn't protect brady.

we had high hopes for aaron dobson. initially i didn't really mind lafell pick up, but i thought it was unnecessary.   but with lafell emerging nobody really misses dobson anymore.   if you look at brady's distribution, we are clearly wanting lafell to be the #1 WR. previously our go to guy has been edelman, but with lafell emerging and gronk looking like gronk, edelman has been our 3rd or even 4th option past few weeks.

i don't know how long this will last, but i see a clear cut #1 WR in lafell.  he is big, fast, and brady likes throwing to him.   yes, brady makes good WR great.  but i think lafell is a talented guy who will be a factor as long as he stays healthy.    i think lafell can be perennial 1000 yard guy with brady.  unless we somehow get another #1 WR, i see brady to lafell combo flourishing.

but no doubt i'll take benjamin over lafell in a heart beat.  i even prefer benjamin over sammy watkins.

well of course our #1 guy is gronk, but he is TE.  lafell is the guy who stretches the field for us.  we haven't had that kinda guy since Moss. we saw little bit of that in Dobson last year, but he is still a young kid who can't fully grasp the playbook.

Brady only had 1 guy who can stretch the field in his entire career.  that was randy moss in 2007.  it's amazing how brady's deep passes % goes drastically up when he doesn't have to force a deep throw to a 5ft 10 white guys.

and you guys are right.  lafell is not elite.  i've seen him enough and he will be one of those 'did he really drop that' guy.    but he earned brady's trust.  and that's why lafell will produce.    trust me, brady doesn't trust anybody. brady isn't an equal opportunity thrower.    he puts dudes in his dog house if they don't run a good route or drop passes.  brady tried to make it work with rookies last year, but you saw the frustration in his face because rookies gonna rookie.    at one point brady didn't even look at other WRs and kept forcing passes to edelman.

but lafell is changing our offense.  his integration wasn't seamless.  but it just seems like he feels very comfortable now with brady.   you guys will hear ton about gronk-lafell-wright combo if brady continues to get the OL protection.
