Does Cam deserve "the contract" based on this season?

Cams athleticism is a two edged sword.  I am not arguing that he has a great OLine or WR set, but just looking at what he does with what he has.

 

What makes him dangerous to the defense can also make him dangerous to the offense.  In his mind, he always thinks he can escape and make a great play. Sometimes he does. That is great to have that desire, but over and over he could throw the ball away and avoid the sack but it just doesn't click for him to do that.

 

His cannon arm can get the ball into places where very few QB's in the league can fit the ball, but then his touch seems to suffer, especially on screen plays and crossing patterns.  Very seldom we see a WR not have to leap in the air and it kills the YAC.  Screen plays were the same today.

 

Cam will get paid, here or somewhere else, but I don't think it will be ultra elite money.  He has the skill for sure, but just has not finished developing the consistency.

Nothing wrong with him defending Jake here. We've had our share of bad QBs, but Jake wasn't one of them. If Cam with his talent showed the same sort of emotion and fire Jake had this conversation isn't even taking place. I'm not saying Jake was better then Cam is, but he was a better leader and he did play with much more heart and you saw it permeate itself throughout the team.

I'm talking about pre Tommy John Jake.

I don't disagree you but it doesn't hurt that he had Prime Steve Smith and a dominant run game most of his time here.

As far as Cam showing emotion, I don't know that it's his personality. If you watch Russell Wilson play, it's the same, he's not an outward emotional guy either, I think they both have plenty of heart.

You may be onto something here. But I'm not sure how much of it is on Cam vs. Shula overdoing the read option now that he knows he can use it. I'm not saying Cam played well today, but it's not like it was entirely his decision to carry the ball 12 times though.

 

Granted Cam runs the plays that are called but I am talking about when passing plays are called.

Once again I'm not saying that Jake is a better qb then Cam.  Jake wasn't worth that contract he got either.  

 

You're proving my point.  Jake had weapons and a dominant run game.  Once we signed Jake to that horrendous deal we were handcuffed.  We couldn't supply the weapons anymore. 

 

We need a better Oline.  We need a legit LT.  We need a starter at RE.  We need an upgraded secondary.  We need a legit number 2 wr and a speed guy.  We have a lot of needs.

 

Teams have shown that you can win in this league without betting the house on a qb. 

 

Baltimore has done it.  TB did it when they won the SB.  Arizona is playing lights out this year. 

 

The reason Seattle won the SB last year is because they had talent all over the field last year.  Not because of Wilson.

Ive said it once, ill say it again. Just let Cam walk. Its a win/win for both sides, he will go to a team that will know how to build around him and we wont have to tie up so much money. Im calling it right now. Manning will retire after winning a SB and Broncos will sign Cam. Cam with that O line and WRs would be beastly. He could just like slide right into the starting spot and not skip a beat because of the talent and O line. Cam will be a Bronco next season.
