What did you buy with your first ever paycheck?

this brings back good memories of all the guitars i've had over the years.  first acoustic was at the age of 12. 13 when i got a squire strat.  15 when i got a mexi tele.  traded it straight up for a japanese mustang.  put down the mustang towards a 2nd mexi tele with upgraded pickups.  was 19 before i saved up enough for a gibson sg standard.  kept this until i 23 and sold it.  ended buying an american tele (this was my favorite guitar hands down).  for some un-godly reason i sold the tele and played acoustics for a few years.  ended up with another gibson sg.  i think it's a fake but it's a pretty bad ass guitar.  upgraded to grover machine heads and put 57 classics in neck and bridge.

here's a list of amps in the order used:

peavey 1x12 bandit (1999)

marshall avt 150 or something with avt 4x12 cab (2001 - 2003)

1974(?) musicman hd-130 with same avt 4x12 cab (2003 - 2005)

vox ac30 2x12 combo (2008 - 2010)

marshall jcm 900 with avt 4x12 (2010 - 2011)

(not sure of year) 2nd musicman hd-130 with line 6 4x12 (2012 - 2014)

that's some pretty solid gear there.  i had an american telecaster for a while too although my favorite fender is still my beat up mexican strat i've had for 13 years now.

my first gibson was an SG special i got when i was 18.  i had played fenders up to that point and was clamoring for a gibson-any gibson-because that was the cool "high end" brand and i just had to have one.  they were the guitars the snobby rich kids got to play and it made me jealous as hell.  i lived in hickory then and there wasn't a single gibson dealer between charlotte and asheville so the used route was pretty much the only way to go.

well i got it, but it was in an insanely stupid trade.  the guy who traded me that guitar got my prized 79 strat with original case in return.  it looked just like this one:

i had gone through a hellacious chain of trades to get it but in a moment of stupidity it was gone.  in my defense this was at the very end of the period when the sort of folk wisdom was that CBS-era fenders sucked so maybe it wasn't a bad trade in terms of market value at the time.  of course that stratocaster is worth way more now and my SG (which i sold years ago) isn't.

I hate ya'll.  Got laid off a job, had to sell all of my gear to make friggin' car payments.  Oh how I would love to strum right now!

One day, I shall have a LP Custom.  One day.

i had to move a bunch of my stuff (including my LP custom) a few years back to pay for car poo too so i know how that feels.  the final body count was my custom, a 70s electric mistress and an early 90s sovtek "civil war" big muff.  the two pedals were noisy as hell and barely worked but they sold easily because toneheads gonna tonehead.   that inspired me to go a bit further and sell a bunch of my pedals that were sitting around doing nothing and i run a minimal rig now.

don't feel bad, i've sold pretty much all of my equipment too.  i don't really have to play anymore and just moved to charlotte and have no one to play with.

It wasn't a real paycheck but I used to pump gas at my dad's gas station for $1/hr on Saturdays when I was around 10 years old.

Worked 9 hours the first Saturday and took my $9 next door to the baseball card shop. Bought several packs of cards, most notable card I got waz a gold Leaf Jeff Bagwell rookie card. The shop owner offered me another pack of Leaf cards for it and I took the deal. Whoops
