Newton Positive? Reed's latest article not too convincing to me for some reason

So pretty much remain the exact same team we are now?  We need an upgrade at T.

Upgrading from Byron Bell won't be that hard.   We need to upgrade the entire line.  Bell is no better worst than the play at all the positions except center.  Look at how much Pittsburgh and Green Bays 2 teams we lost 2.  Both of whom have better records.

Young players rookie deals , with 5 year deals that are almost less than what Byron Bell is making this year.   You don't have to spend 7-10 million a year per position.  You just have to develop a philosophy and build your team accordingly.  When you get an exceptional key word here is "EXCEPTIONAL" player at a position you need you pay , then you pay top dollar and deal with it accordingly.  Trying to low ball your best players is not the answer.  Cam's gonna get 20 plus, luke gonna get 10.  There it's done.  Pay for your DL and then make everything else work.   Our best DL is probably costing us 1 mill per year (KK),  He is a second round pick in his second year.  Once we get the RB salaries under control we will be fine.

I know Cam is an exceptional talent.  It's really not the issue.  The issue is what is his worth to us?  We all know it's a lot...but how much?

It's not like we invested heavily into the qb position when we made the SB.  We've seen the same thing with the Cardinals over the past 2 seasons.

This may have been true in the past, but I wholeheartedly disagree with this assessment this year. Along with Olsen, Cam has been about as a consistent player that we've had, only surpassed by KK Short. Give him better protection, and he will help others to raise their level. Give him better weapons, and others can take some pressure off of Cam, and allow him to be naturally more comfortable which will nurture his consistency.

Cam's stats---and the eye test, really---are indicative of him playing the best of his career. Did you not read the article?

Cam played terrible against GB.

He's looked great this season & better than he ever has, but he's not immune to having a bad game. He flat out sucked, no excuses needed.

He'll play better this week.

Peyton manning does. He has the Thomas's , welker and a Ware, Von Miller plus a decent defense. Still making 20 million a year.

People need to stop blaming the QB's for getting paid. The salary cap is a number a bunch of billionaires made up to keep salaries in check. People always try to attach salary with desire to win and it's unfair and short sighted. Even if Cam took below market value, the GM could F#$$ it up and sign the wrong "weapon". Then Cam is making less than market value and the team still sucks. He only gets paid what the market dictates. Top tier QB's make 20+ million a year. That's the market.

Pretty true. There are teams out there who spend every dollar and suck year in and year out.

Jut got to find the right guys.

Has anyone noticed the past 2 weeks, we didn't implement the no huddle offense? The 2nd drive is around the time we should go to it. Meanwhile Bengals, that's all they did. I can't really remember about GB

We did .. they got bogged down by penalties.

Riiiiiight...whatever you say. Your credibility just fell out of your diaper.

Dalton is a roleplayer.

Back at you.

Since he arrived, it would be tough to argue there are more than 2 QBs who had had a more well rounded team around them

I didn't say he was Jimmy Clausen. Said he was a JAG.

How are Dalton's playoff performances?

Really? You're going there? Andy Dalton's name was brought up in the context of salary in comparison to Cam and his future negotiations and you're going to bring up playoffs?

Since Dalton was brought into the conversation as a comparison to Cam, let's keep it in that context:

Andy Dalton: 3 years in the league, 3 years of winning records (9-7, 10-6, 11-5) and 3 playoff appearances.

Cam Newton: not so much, right?

So let me just put the same question back to you: How are Cam's playoff appearances?

I am sure I'm probably just looking into the state of the team and conjecturing as to Cam's mindset a little too much. And maybe I am suffering from the disconnect between Cam's in-person demeanor and mere words online. Or maybe Reed shouldn't have entitled his article Panthers' Newton Stays Positive Amid Obstacles when it's difficult to be positive about the season for some of us right now. Or maybe I am just being too pessimistic, and Cam is just too far removed from the sulking young man---with the towel over his head---on the sidelines who was not used to a losing culture. Perhaps he has found a reason to smile about the season because true Panthers fans all know by now that he does not have a fake smile.

We all know this season's struggles, blah blah blah.

I mean, what else is he supposed to say? The team is under-performing, and he never would have guessed? Has he lowered his standards on a subliminal level and gotten used to losing in blowout fashion? I will say this, he has matured to a point where if he is upset that we'll never know. His professionalism has been spot-on for one who has had to do so much to lead the team to victory.

Does he? He is giving the right answer I guess...

But then there is this:

Cam has raised his game and trying to guide the ship, but regardless the ship is taking on water.

Basically, Newton's supporting cast is not doing enough, and Cam does have to carry the team more than he should, and though he is saying the right things, he is still feeling the pressure. I just wonder what's really going on in his mind, particularly because of a looming contract, tag or free agency off in the distance.

We spent the better part of his first two seasons complaining that the media read way too much into Cam's body language and now this ^
