Newton Positive? Reed's latest article not too convincing to me for some reason

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Cam go somewhere else.  I'll get flamed for this, but the reality is, is that despite how good Cam is we might have a better chance of getting better without him because we can address all of our glaring needs with solid talent. Not saying we would....just seeing how DG might think so.

You will get flamed because that is just ridiculous.  There are not 32 franchise quarterbacks in the league and Cam is one of them.  Gettleman knows that Cam is the future of the franchise and will pay him a ton.  He has seen what Eli Manning did for the Giants during his 2 superbowl wins to know that Cam is a keeper.

Besides how many franchise quarterbacks who are healthy have every been traded in their prime besides Cutler?  I can't think of any. They are too valuable to get rid of.

Special teams contribution is irrelevant in this topic.

Has Dalton earned it?

ST's is not irrelevant.

No I don't think Dalton has earned that much.  I think he was overpaid and the Bengals are going to pay for it down the road.  Specifically when it comes to resigning AJ Green,  Andre Smith, and Andrew Whitworth before the end of next season.  AJ Green's contract expires at the end of this season I believe.  So now they're going to have to try and resign both starting tackles and their star WR very soon with all that money already committed to Dalton.

At that point they're are going to wish they did what the Cardinals did.

Dude Ginn has struggled all his years as a WR except the year with Cam. I have no idea why you're bringing ST into this ?? Ginn has always been dynamic as a returner.

Cam is going to get paid exactly how much he should be paid and the contract will be structured in a way that doesn't kill the team. The cap is going to be raised every year for the next couple years with the tv money coming in.

Seems like a bunch of fans are hoping newton leaves. He's not.

No.  Newton is my favorite player.  He's incredibly fun to watch and he's been a great citizen.  I hope we can keep Newton.

It's just if you asked me what was more important either: A) Overpaying Cam so he can remain a Panther but we stay a fringe playoff team.  B ) Letting Cam walk so we can build a dominant team around our QB.  I would choose B.  I'll be ecstatic if we can resign Cam to a sensible contract that doesn't inhibit the upward mobility of the team.

Some articles about your concerns including the first one by an ex-sports agent.

Green is signed through 2015. Wrong again

Informative, thanks for sharing that.

I said that in a previous post that a Dalton like deal would be acceptable.  In fact it's probably the best case scenario.  If Bus Cook is trying to get Cutler money then it presents a serious set of problems for us.  Considering the Bears lines are terrible, and their defense is atrocious.  I don't want to be like the Bears.

Cardinals don't really need him to do what he was asked to do here.  His value has always been more on the special teams side.  It's not like he had a breakout year at wr last year.  He was average at wr.

Statistically.  He's 2-3-1 as a starter, and he's looked terrible in the losses.  He's still to inconsistent.  In all of those losses he had garbage time touchdown passes.   Every week it's like are we gonna get good Cam or bad Cam.

This may have been true in the past, but I wholeheartedly disagree with this assessment this year.  Along with Olsen, Cam has been about as a consistent player that we've had, only surpassed by KK Short.  Give him better protection, and he will help others to raise their level. Give him better weapons, and others can take some pressure off of Cam, and allow him to be naturally more comfortable which will nurture his consistency.

Cam's stats---and the eye test, really---are indicative of him playing the best of his career.  Did you not read the article?

Cam will get more than Dalton and will deserve it.  Just remember that much of the guaranteed money can be a good size signing bonus and then guaranteeing his first 2 years salary.  Given his toughness that is not a huge issue.  By the time he hits his early 30s it is not hard to restructure to make it work.  Lets be real here we have 20 million of dead cap space this year which all fit under the budget.  With the salary cap going up and some big contract going away we can sign Luke, Cam and Star without too much of a problem given that they don't all hit the same year.

Olsen has always had good production. Ginn is having a great year with Arizona. He did not revive Smith's career. Smith is on track to double is production in Baltimore compared to last year.

Olsen has never had the production he does now with Cam

89 did have a revival in 2011. 2013 he was asked by the OC to be a much different WR.

Ginn isn't having a great year. He has 4 catches for 50 yards. Cam got him paid....sucked before and now

Now Kelvin is doing what rookies aren't suppose to do
