Requirement to be a top-tier QB

I don't understand the 'no weapons' debate. People will always say Manning had tons of great weapons. I'd say the majority of those weapons were just young players before he started throwing them the ball and they suddenly became great.

top-tier qbs need consistency and playoff wins. Daunte Culpepper had amazing stats his first few years but that didn't hold up and his Vikings teams lost 41- in the playoffs.

Winning is important but most consider Roethlisberger a top tier QB and his Steelers teams have been up and down lately with no major success. Eli Manning is a sure HOFer but he's probably officially 'dropped off'. Rivers hasn't had the playoff success (no SB appearance). Brees won a SB and breaks records. Wilson won a SB but he's only shown it for one and a half seasons. Cam has no playoff wins but has shown small improvements each season.

I'd say right now Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are in a class of their own. Their teams win every year and they regularly outduel opposing QBs. Aaron Rodgers is one step below those two. His teams make the playoffs every year and he has the SB title but GB tends to be less dominate.

Aside from that you have Brees who breaks records, Wilson and Flacco with SB wins, Rivers with years of quality play though a few bad seasons in the middle of his career.

Everyone else is a step below trying to join the discussion (cam kap) or has dropped off from being at the top (eli ben).

Agree wih most of what ya said, mannings has the best receiving core in the history in Denver though let's be honest. Both Thomas' are #1 receiving threats, sanders is the best #2 in the league, I'd say he's a #1 anywhere, and welker is solid. He also had Harrison and Wayne forever. Brady had one year of really good receivers, he makes the young junk that bellichek drafts look good.

Brady won Super Bowls when New England had dominant defenses.

Brady out up big numbers when he had the most dominant WR in NFL history.

Without those pieces he's done nothing. Dilfer won a championship with a defense, Stafford puts up big numbers with a WR. Big deal.

Yeah, what he did 15 years ago has no bearing on this season. If you're going off past accomplishments, Marino & Montana are still better QBs than any active QB.

AFCCG means nothing. The AFC is terrible. Besides, Kaepernick has made the NFCCG 3 straight years.

Calling 2014 Brady a top 5 QB makes you sound like an autistic monkey. He's not.

Animals, specifically land mammals, are naturally super sensory (the main characteristic of autism) so you're being redundant.  Good job.

You're entitled to your opinion.  Even if it's wrong.

Why don't we ask the other Huddlers if Brady is an elite top ten qb.  You said he wasn't even in the top ten right?

This season, there are 3 elite QB's.

Manning

Rivers

Rodgers

In the NFL, if looking at this season and past seasons, there are 5 elite QB's.

Manning

Brady

Brees

Rodgers

Rivers

Luck will be entering the discussion if his team keeps on winning, and Cam can get there.  Those are the only ones out there who have the ability to take that next step over the next 2 seasons.

The entire idea of basing a QBs comparative "greatness" on wins, playoffs and Super Bowls is tossed into the crapper when you never hear Terry Bradshaw and his 4 Super Bowls as one of the best.

I think if this discussion occurred in 1982, he would be mentioned.  The younglings nowadays look at his completion percentage and say, he barely completed 50% of his passes, not realizing that most of his throws happened when defenders could still mug receivers beyond 5 yards.

Fwiw, I think Fran Tarkenton is probably a top 5 all time qb.  Never won a Super bowl, but he went to some.  And was a master at avoiding the sack, while having a very high for his time, completion percentage.
