The Seattle Seahawks’ Big Problem

LUUUUUKE

Recommended Posts

I found this very well put together article about the Seahawks during my nightly sports reading. It details what's wrong with their Defense. In a nutshell, they're not as deep on the D-line as they were last year due to FA departures. I found it interesting, as we too are having issues on our D line although not the same, I believe it definitely draws a parallel between two of last year's most dominant Defenses, and why they're not the same this year.

I highly recommend a full read on this one after a sampling of this excerpt

The numbers are staggering. Last season, the Seahawks sacked the quarterback 12 times in the fourth quarter. This season, they are on pace to do it twice. They have allowed 8 yards per passing attempt in the fourth quarter—up 40% from last season. Most astonishing is the difference in quarterback “hurries,” or rushed passing attempts, late in games: Last season, the Seahawks hurried the opposing quarterback 21 times in the fourth quarter. This season’s total: one.

Bennett, one of the linemen that the Seahawks did hold on to, has played over 70% of Seattle’s defensive snaps in all six games this season, according to Pro Football Focus. Last year, over the entire 16-game season, he played that much only four times. Cliff Avril has played over 60% in five of Seattle’s six games. Last year, all season, he did that twice.

It definitely shows their weakness. Unfortunately for us, our O line sucks. We'll see how it plays out between the lines on Sunday. I'm looking forward to it. Pretty good read though right?

I also wish somebody cared enough about us to write some in depth analysis

A lot of us are pointing to Hardy's absence on the DL, but don't forget that Frank Alexander is also missing from the rotation. Who knows what the problem is, but we also had a very nice/deep rotation on the DL as a whole last year. Doesn't look to be the case this year. This article has made me think a little bit. Although we're not Seattle we had a lot in common with them last year as far as our front 7.

I live in Seattle now. All my friends are Seahawks fans (don't know why). Anyway the local sports radio has been talking about this very issue. However I have not heard anyone think the Seahawks will lose or that the game will even be close. I so hope the Panthers can take the Hawks down this weekend!! It will make my party GREAT!!

I really dont get why people seem to think the Seahawks will easily beat us. They lost to the Rams, say what you will about us but everyone of our losses has been to legit teams. Them losing to the Rams is equal to us losing to the Bucs.

Our receiving threats are head and shoulders above theirs, I think Cam is slightly better than Wilson and both our Ds suck. This will be their 2nd consecutive east coast road game. Can someone please tell me how the Seahawks are better than us by such a huge margin as people claim other than "but bu they are the super bowl champz" because both of us are 3-3

This is what Gil Brandt wrote today;

Seattle should pull even with 4-3 San Francisco (which has a bye in Week 8) after beating the Carolina Panthers this coming Sunday -- but ultimately, I think the Seahawks are more likely to fall short at season's end.

They can think we're going to lose all they want, it doesn't mean it's gonna happen. I was really hoping that the article would have stirred up some comparisons between our line last year to what it is this year. I guess that's asking too much 'round these parts.

False. Their defense is still ranked top 10 while our D is ranked near last. I have a really bad feeling about this game, especially with the way our defense has been looking. I just hope we contain Wilson because our D-line has had a bad habit this year of rushing too much downfield and losing contain (see Cutler, Rodgers, and even Dalton). If we do that against Wilson, he is going to run all over us.

Everybody talks about Seattle's "leagon of boom" or whatever it is, but during the offseason they lost 3 d lineman.  2 DT and a DE I think.  While none of the guys were great pass rushers all of them contributed into the rotation and were solid.  Now they just don't have the depth on the line.  They don't have the guys to rotate in anymore.  So everyone say all you want about the secondary sucking, even Seattle with its "great" secondary cant stop teams from passing.  The biggest difference in the 2014 Panthers and the 2013 is Greg Hardy.
