Sure, they released the guy.... and replaced him with no one much better. He would have been gone after this season regardless. Now the Panthers don't have to pay him the $1.7M roster bonus this year.

 

And for those needing a contract refresher:

 

9/9/2011: Signed a six-year, $28.7 million contract. The deal contains $12.4 million guaranteed, including a $5 million signing bonus.

Godfrey is eligible for an annual $100,000 workout bonus in years two through six.

Another $600,000 is available through incentives based on Pro Bowl selections.

2014: $750,000 (+ $1.7 million in per-game roster bonuses)

2015: $5 million

2016: $5.3 million

2017: Free Agent

Probably wanted to see if he was going to round into form.   Never really happened and saw like everyone else putting him at CB was just subjecting him to abuse.

I'd definitely rather run 2 TE sets with BWill and Olsen than have DWill or any of our RBs atm run up the middle for -2 yards....

This is naive. Both of our big name RBs have looked great when healthy this year.
