Godfrey Released

Recommended Posts

It would take an american working 40 hours a week for 16 1/2 years making $60,000 just to make half of what he made this year alone just to put that in perspective

Edit: wow after posting that it pisses me off that most athletes some how end up broke after their playing days.

That's what happens when you give a bunch of overgrown children millions of dollars.  They invest in their friends stupid businesses and loan money to deadbeat friends from their childhood, buy the most expensive cars and live in the penthouse condo and save nothing.  I feel no sympathy for them though because they had the life and they fuged it up.  Most people never even get a sniff.

The NFL should always offer financial planning courses for their employees.

The sad thing is, if you watch the 30 for 30 episode about players going broke, alot of teams do, and either players ignore it or dont use it

I'm happy to see it happen due to the message it sends (with how long we've held onto Godfrey, a clear message is sent). That said, I'm sad the injury ended what he had left in him. He wasn't great at safety, but he wasn't as bad as he was made out to be. He was more a victim of being overpaid so fans lose their poo with him and rightfully so at that price. Same thing is happening with deangelo, Stewart, and CJ, their worth doesn't match their contracts. I won't rejoice In a guy getting the pink slip, and likely forced into retirement, but he didn't belong on ours, or any roster post injury. Good luck Godfrey in your future endeavors.

Nothing against the guy, but I have never seen a player look as bad as Godfrey has the past two weeks.

Voth posted a statistic earlier that said teams were 10/11 going at him the last two weeks. That's atrocious, and it doesnt even include the missed tackles, penalties when he was beat, etc etc.

Teams knew they could go at him.

It was definitely in the gameplan against Green Bay.  It looked like the middle of the field was wide open.  Then the missed tackles were just demoralizing.

I don't understand why people can't see what a great pass rusher/ run stopper means to a team.

Cause they don't know football.  I remember an ESPN article about the Panthers and a guy called John Kasay selfish because he trotted onto the field whenever it was the slightest possibility of a FG.  Only somebody that doesn't know football would think a kicker would defy or be able to defy a head coach and run onto the field to kick a FG.  Its just no policing these imbecilic posters with minimal knowledge.
