Chances Riverboat Ron gets Canned ?

Not add fuel to the fire but anyone thinking Rivera can't be fired because he received an extension needs to understand that we have no idea what the details of the extension are because they were never disclosed. For all we know, his new contract could state that if he fails to make the playoffs again then he could essentially be let go.

Not saying that is the case but lets also keep in perspective that Marty Schotteinheimer (sp?) was fired after a 14-2 season.... So stranger things have happened.

All that being said, I don't see him being fired this season

Its possible, depending on the talent pool available to interview.

The front office obviously has a plan and firing RR a year after giving him an extension isn't part of it.

In what world do we live in when Jim Harbaugh is on the hot seat and on his way out and Ron Rivera's job is safe?

Starting to think Jerry Richardson's standards are too low.

Pretty sure that has to do with a personal conflict and not his success as a coach.

Whatever the personal conflict is it can't be worse than the way Gettleman and Rivera handled the Smitty situation. Snubbed out the greatest Panther of all time.

My biggest qualms with Rivera are the way he manages games. Sometimes it seems like he's clueless out there. The last 2 challenges he made weren't even close. Our defense has been so undisciplined it's not even funny. Missing tackles, taking poor angles, blown coverages, bone headed penalties to extend drives. These things start with coaching and he's suppose to be a defensive guy.

Riveras fate will be determined against the NFC South the last 8 games.

All the whining about lost opportunity because of the Hardy situation is laughable. At least his tag is a 1 year cap hit. What did you want Gman to do let him walk or be stuck with dead money for years from what it would have taken to sign him.

In the same world where a guy with talent like Percy Harvin's gets traded away.

You ever had to go to work every day with a guy you absolutely hated?  It's not easy, and sports don't make it easier.

Harbaugh is a world class prick, always angry, fuming and screaming.  When your team consists of a bunch of college age kids who'll all be gone in 3-4 years, that kind of persona works.  Adult players with big money contracts and free agency options?  Not so much.

a coach having a conflict with the Gm and/or owner is much different than a GM/coach mishandling the dismissal of a player.

I'm not a Ron hater nor am I a Ron lover. I just don't think he's getting canned this season under any circumstance.

I think his clock management is terrible. I think not going for it on 4th and inches when you're down 21 and clearly not stopping GB is ridiculous. And I think leaving Cam, Stew, and KB in the game in the second half when it was clearly over is dumb as hell.

But I don't think he has a chance of getting fired.

I would have let him walk.  Many were saying that playoff game last year was his last in a Panthers uniform.

Not to mention not going for it in OT on 4th and short.  You play to win the game right there.  Your defense couldn't stop them in the first quarter, no way it will in OT.   The only reason it ended in a tie was dumb luck.  Rivera got lucky he missed it and everyone forgot about that stupid decision.

I guess the bright side is we have Seattle coming in and Baldwin/Kearse are definitely no Jordy/Cobb. If we can pull out a win this week and next week vs NO we will have a commanding lead on the division.

As big of a headache as this season has been we can still easily make the playoffs.

Yeah I had a HUGE problem with that. We lose that game 95% of the time.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
