Clinton Portis on WFNZ yesterday....

they have already started allocating money to the future to put players around Cam.  as much as us fans want and expect instant gratification, i am assuming DG is looking at us being another year for being a true contender.  you cant have near $18 million in dead money and expect to be a top team.  the two old safeties, two udfa T's and subpar corners are obvious stop-gaps.

Yeah, even though I've been a bit critical of Gettleman for a few decisions, he is a smart man, and he knows talent for the most part. He's got eyes, and he can see that Newton is still very much carrying this team, even with an OL that wouldn't even make it in the college ranks.

I expect that he will be making big moves in the offseason to build a real OL around our franchise QB.

Yeah it feels weird but I can't wait to see what happens this offseason.

First off we have to allow Cam to leave because we will franchise him before we loose him. Second, a team has to be able to afford him and I am guessing he will be making close to 20 million a year which is a lot for any team to spend on one player. If Cam leaves it will be a trade and we will get a lot in return for him.

Exactly what I've been saying. No point in tagging a guy who's just going to be a free agent the following season. I'd make Cam sign this offseason or trade him. If he "tests" free agency he's as good as gone.

Every time the tag is used the player is a FA the next season.

Everyone is a genius when they're pointing out everything they think GMan has done wrong. But not a single one of you can say what should have been done differently with respect to our available cap, FAs available, and drafting position.

And the sad thing about this thread is that posters are getting angry when you ask them to write a decent argument for what they would do.  I understand the line sucks, but I am glad we didn't throw huge contracts at Michael Oher and other OTs that got overpaid this summer.

It is really grating when all you ask is for someone to elaborate on their shite post and they flip out.

What makes you sure they won't use the tag (even if it's tag and trade)?

Because if we have to tag cam it will only delay the inevitable. If you have to tag Cam, he is not your franchise QB any longer and not worth the money it would cost to tag him. He has no future on the team. Franchise QB's make that much money because a team can plan their entire offense around them long term. Paying a QB that much money for just a season or two is a recipe for many, many losing seasons to come when there are such obvious needs elsewhere.

Better to make him the best offer you can make. If he chooses to go elsewhere, thats on him. You take the money you would have paid him and invest in areas of need.

    • I don't know about you but I have been a life long Chiefs fan for the past 4 years.
    • Sure there's a ton of transplants in Colorado now. But as far as Denver in particular goes the Broncos have also been around for 65 years. Someone moving to Denver is going to be far more likely to become a fan of the Broncos and even attend games versus someone moving to Charlotte and the Panthers. Like I said it's not just one single thing with us it's multiple factors.
    • He's definitely getting better. It's fun to watch.  I've been getting killed for this take, but with the current state of college football, it just takes more time to develop a quarterback. I don't think it's a plug and play position anymore. I'm really not sure if it ever was. NFL offenses have always been substantially more complex than the college game, and the college game has simplified even more in recent years. Many college teams do not have a physical playbook anymore. That's just not the national football league.  Are there freaks who have success from day 1? Yes, without question. But so many of those guys are runners, and so many of those guys tail off. Is Bryce ever going to be Josh Allen? Probably not.  What I am seeing is a guy with complete command of the offense. He's checking into things at the line, making adjustments, and making timely throws.  He goes to David Moore a ton, because Moore is a consistent route runner. Bryce knows where he is and when he should be open. I think the guy with the "super processor" needs to be comfortable in the offense in order to do the "super processing." He doesn't have elite arm talent, and he is small of stature, but if he makes the smart play consistently, and he's willing to throw the ball downfield and not make mistakes, like he's starting to show, he's going to be a starter for a long time in this league, and it's not a position I'd spend draft capital right now.
