Clinton Portis on WFNZ yesterday....

Common sense really. I have always thought Cam would test free agency.

In fact, he may consider a slightly lower offer to a team with a stout offensive line. This would only extend the chances of him having a long healthy career and in turn make more $$ in the long run.

Cam is not particularly tied down to Carolina. If a larger market comes calling with more money to spend, he will go.

I don't see it happening. He cares about his career and reputation and how people will view his career 20 years from now. He would get torn apart like LeBron if he left Carolina. He doesn't want that.

After Collins signed what was the move he should have made instead of signing off on Bell?

With Hardy franchised, I don't know that there was one.

(and to be clear, I agreed with that decision)

I don't know of any options that would have been better than what we thought we had in Bell or Chandler after we lost the chance at Collins.

Does anyone?

The tackles that were available in free agency got ridiculously overpaid, and most of them are now underachieving.  And I'm never a fan of reaching for need when it comes to the draft.

I know someone will say "pull off a big trade", but that's not realistic.

There just weren't a lot of options.

lol just lol

What part of that post was wrong?

You don't become an entertainer and icon playing in Charlotte. The few greats we've had in Charlotte have known that and walked. Zo left, Larry Johnson left, Peppers left. Where did they go to? Miami, New York, and Chicago. Charlotte teams can overpay and the Hornets can offer MJ, but that's it. Unless you have a family, why would you want to play here all things being equal?

We've given Cam no one to grow with besides Benjamin and that was just this year. We gutted our WR group and got older in the process. That's going backwards imo. Guys like Bersin and Philly aren't weapons, they've been nice surprises given our current roster.

Philly and Bersin are guys that wouldn't even make the roster on most of the teams in the NFL.  At least not any of them competing for a playoff spot.

Give it up hopeless Panthers fan boys, there's a good chance Cam won't be finishing his career here.  If I was Cam and I saw 4 out of 5 of my offensive linemen were undrafted and I got hit more than any other QB in the NFL, I'd be ready to leave.

I was being serious. If you're strongly sure that the moves were incorrect then you have to know what the correct move was to back up your argument. If not then you don't have a very strong argument.

I know you were being serious, which is why I dismissed the question as irrelevant. What's the point of "NAMING A NAME" just to drag the conversation down to one or two players as if any one or two players that I would've named would change the fact that Gettleman has not made the o-line a priority.

The answer to that question has ZERO to do with the situation, therefore, it was dismissed. I don't need to prove squat to you about what I know. You want a name to try to make a determination about my knowledge, as if either my knowledge or your determination matters. What you think changes nothing about Gettleman not making "protecting Cam" a priority. He hasn't.

I sure as hell wouldn't have drafted Morgan Moses, not knowing what we know now.

I have no problem with Gettleman's drafting philosophy or his cap management. The things that have gone wrong are not things anyone could have foreseen.

I do disagree with signing off on Bell and Chandler at the tackles. Although I think that was more Rivera than Gettleman (see the post above on Collins) gettleman still has to bear the ultimate blame for it.

All that said, the silver lining for this season is that we'll likely end up with higher draft picks than expected.

Perfect really that we may get to have our cake and eat it too. Division champs, winning record, playoffs, shot at the whole thing, and if we don't win a playoff game, pick 21st where we can fleece a moronic team like the saints for a 3rd round pick so they can move up to draft a midget while we get the OROY at 28. I like it.

Me and you could probably do this all day but I know hindsight is 20/20 and what not. There have been draft picks I haven't agreed with. Just like Ealy over Robinson this past draft. Kyle Long over Star last draft, could possibly be aruged given the state of our OL he would've given our line some added nastiness.

We needed to sign a LT this offseason as well. Our D stinks anyway so we could've had Godfrey and Lester start at S and saved money on Harper and Decoud. But again, I'm not anyone expected Decoud and Harper to suck this bad.

NFL salaries don't work like the NBA. There are no "max deals" in the NFL.

In the Hornets case, Shinn was penny pinching because he was cheap. J.R. and Gettleman are penny pinching solely out of necessity and, you could argue, for the purpose of signing Cam after some major cuts this coming offseason.

Just as you can spin things into "Cam is leaving" I can say the front office has made it clear that Cam's money and help is on the way provided they get through another lean year of Hurneys mess.

this sounds like the classic boyfriend/girlfriend that is constantly worried their SO is going to leave

can't spend your life worrying about that, and BESIDES we will franchise tag him for years and if he truly does want to leave we will trade him for a king's ransom
