Leasing my first car.

Negotiating and stuff.

There is really no negotiating.  But I'd recommand to double check your interest rate.  I've had things happen when leasing company gave me a vehicle and told me it's at 6.5% interest rate and my payment lets says $1,200 a month. (It said 6.5% in contract). When I took contract and calculate interest rate in my work system (called TValue)... my interest rate came up as 7.1%.  fugers lied to me.  Always double check all numbers.

I think I'll get quotes from a couple different dealers as well. All dealers won't be the same I'm assuming.

Dex, I was in the same boat as Arsen, although his style is a little different than mine, he just is kind of direct... I wouldn't lease a car due to the financial aspects of it... if you're cool with it, I don't have any issue with that and don't think you're an idiot...  it's just not what I would do.

Leases are pretty simple... follow the rules and you won't get charged more than you're expecting.  We leased a car back when we were younger and the terms weren't terrible, but they raped us on the up front costs mainly bc I didn't know what I was getting into.

No, go farther away from the city but not too far.

Dealerships in city limits usually have higher property tax and higher rent so they increase vehicle prices to cover these expenses.

Yes, sorry.  I'm very direct... I'm terrible at sugarcoating things.  It got me 3 promotions tho so hey!

I understand where he is coming from and if I could afford to buy the cars I want I would buy them. But I can't so I'm going to lease. My mom is walking me through it so I don't get screwed and you guys are helping too. Buying is great because it essentially an investment and I plan on doing it in the future when I can afford what I want.

FWIW, and sorry to keep discussing the buying aspect, but you can piss away a lot of money by buying all the time too. I know from experience. We've bought and sold cars outright for like the past 5 years.

Depreciation is a bitch, and at least with leasing you're not going to have to worry about resale value because you aren't the end user for that part of a car's life. We learned the hard way that you have to get a lot of use out of a car if you buy it outright.

Yeah, different people are different...  I'm perfectly happy driving an 11 year old vehicle...  as long as it's running ok and does what I need...   also, the minute I got a new one, some asshat would ding it or sideswipe me... (just my luck).

When you're a big shot TV mogul, you can hire me to be your assistant and I'll get a new GTR or something...

I am turning in my VW lease next month. I kept it under the max mileage by less than a thousand miles, but I had an old Jeep to help manage that with.

I don't want a car for 5 plus years and can keep it clean and the mileage under control. If you can't manage the mileage you will pay at the end- or you can get another lease of that brand and they may waive all that. VW was great to work with.

Which one you had?  I'm planning on buying Touareg in couples of years.
