In my younger days.....

I agree with this.. However, if the players stop buying into a system or into what a coach is saying it shows on the field IMO.

What shows is we have no OL....

What shows is we have no secondary

And people are trying to act like it is a lack of effort or coaching issue. You don't have those 2 things you are often going to get embarrassed. We overachieved last year, expecting to do it with even bigger holes was just silly

There's no such thing as "players giving up on the team and coaches" It doesn't happen in the NFL. If it did, it would be pretty obvious and those players would be cut the following Monday.

Just last week, the Panthers in a heart wrenching gutless effort tied with the Bengals and Cam had the game of his career

The previous week, the Panthers made 2nd half adjustments and completely shut down the Bears defensively and had an amazing comeback. This was following two abysmal one sided blowouts to the Steelers and Ravens.

It's so amazing how emotional fans get after a loss. This is the NFL. Teams get blown out every week. The Niners just got dismantled by the Broncos following 3 straight wins. So all of a sudden, they gave up on the team and coaches? The Falcons have been absolutely manhandled the last 4 weeks following a blowout win against the Bucs? Have they given up on the team and coaches?

It's better to put things in perspective and use logic before posting threads based on emotion.

Standing ovation

Granted this is the absolute worst the team has looked under Rivera given they are breaking records the team set during the 2001 season (the year they went 1-15).  Rivera is supposed to be a defensive head coach and breaking records the team set during their worst season of existence doesn't bode well for him.

I think it's an interesting opinion but I wouldn't go so far to say he's lost the team quite yet.  The did badly mismanage the Hardy situation, but it's not like they had a choice.  He was caught up in a media firestorm and was a distraction to the team.  The NFL and Goodell came down and pulled him from the team.  If it was up to the Panthers I don't think he would have missed a game.

While I can appreciate the analogy I wouldn't put it fully on that. Harper and Decoud just look like they don't care. There is no passion. There is no Bravery. Mike Mitchell wasn't as smart but damn he gave you everything he had. I don't see that from these safeties.

I could see the DLine being pissed about the Hardy situation but this is an opportunity for them to get paid...

One thing I think, and I have no proof whatsoever. Some of those guys on defense are jealous of Luke. Luke is a fan favorite. He gets all the media attention. He gets the endorsement deals. A defensive lineman will stuff the run, Luke runs in to assist and everyone cheers for Luke. All those guys on defense have a high opinion of themselves. They all worked hard to get to where they are and Luke is getting all the credit and someday all the money. I think the Hardy situation combined with jealousy has disjointed our defense a little. When something goes wrong, everyone is looking at the people around them. They are pointing fingers with their eyes.

Last year when the D gave up a play they cranked it up a notch, they wouldn't just deflate. We don't have those hardass characters anymore. Guys like Hardy, Munnerlyn, and Mitchell. They gave up big plays too, but they didn't bend over.

It actually means quite a bit. If you have never spent a day in the desert or understand what and how things go down over there shut your fugging mouth.

If you have zero knowledge of a chain of command or how mother fugging easy it is to keep it "in house" shut your fugging mouth. And, if you have no idea what it means for a young LT trying to bury his troops to get another bar shut your fugging mouth. I do, and the analogy works.

orrrrrrr

LT knew poo rolls downhill and if peacekeeping efforts and attempts to mitigate cultural problems in collaborative nation-building efforts (which the u.s. gov takes very seriously) are undermined by PFC dumbass making jungle juice because he misses smashing 40s of natty lite behind the citgo with his pals from kenansville then his ass is buried, his mens' asses are buried, and u.s. nation-building efforts are buried.

We went to his tent and we got SMASHED.. The time away from our families, the drama that exist in the middle east, the fear all of it for just that moment all went away.  We felt like we were "back home"

Reminds me of the part in Shawshank Redmemption when Andy gets all his prison buddies booze and he didn't even drink any just did it so he could feel normal again and make everything about the prison go away. Makes me think, football is of so little importance compared to the bigger things going on in the world. I enjoy watching the games and following every aspect of the team as much as or more than the next guy but at the end of the day it's just a game. Hug your kids, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers if you have them, grandparents, friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc because you never know what may happen at any given moment. Thank you for your service, Sc0rned.

Mitchell was huge for the mentality of our defense, as was Hardy. And on offense we lost two very passionate guys and leaders, regardless of what you think of Smitty's behavior. Losing Mitchell and Hardy's mentality has affected the team more than losing either of their talents. Rivera doesn't have that mentality, nor does Luke or TD (they are both passionate but not nearly to the degree that Mike and Greg are), Cam does in a different way but other than him really nobody on this team has that mentality right now. It was contagious back with Mike, Greg, Jordan and Smitty here and the team didn't just want to win, they NEEDED to win. It was their life. Right now everybody on our team other than Cam looks like they are out there only to collect a paycheck. KB as much of a beast as he is, doesn't seem to be 100% into the game. He doesn't even seem to be 75% into the game, when in this league you need to be 125% into the game. Olsen gives his all as does TD and other guys but nobody other than Cam is giving more than their all. Gotta take it that step further like we did last year but now we can't. Losing Mike and Greg destroyed our defense and if we want that dominant aspect of the team back, we need Greg back and someone who can fill Mike's role as a leader and passionate player that literally puts his all into the team and game. I feel weird comparing Mike to Sam Mills but they are very similar in how they view the game. We need somebody who views the game the way those two do.

I think the team as a whole looked worse in the first half of the 2012 season.  Both teams experienced some bad blowouts, but that team also lost the close one, where as this one doesn't lose the close ones.
