the official "Dave Gettleman fuging sucks" thread

It's pretty clear that what I'm saying isn't so obvious, given you don't get it.

No, actually it is.  Saying that pressure helps the secondary is the obvious part.  Its your blanket generalizations to account for everything that I don't agree with.  That's all.  ;)

but he said we were not rebuilding and that we plan to defend our division crown

Maybe I worded that wrong. What I meant is that Gettleman wasn't going to get us stuck in big contracts with a "win now, pay later" mentality. I know he's made some mistakes in his tenure here, but I like the approach to long term success that he's bringing.

Dave Gettleman shits gold nuggets and its all Hardy and Johnson's fault. It has nothing to do with signing harper and Cason and allowing Godfrey to come back and play CORNER with an asinine cap number. It's also not his fault that his roster simultaneously features what may be the two worst tackles in league history who just happen to both be starting. Nope, if only Hardy didn't have a crack ***** at his house we would all be eating bacon and worshipping Gettleman.

I don't remember who was out there at the time, but Gettleman's decisions have created the worst secondary in the NFL. No one is even disputing their the worst and he drafted or signed every single one of these guys except for Charles Godfrey.

Also, how many more years are we going to use the cap situation excuse? I have been posting on the Huddle since almost the beginning and I swear people have used this excuse every single year.

Yea it hasn't even been 2 full years since he took over Hurney's mess....here's a clue...contracts are normally longer than 2 years and he has to deal with quite a few shitty ones. So no you haven't been hearing it that long at all.

Besides letting go of Steve Smith, I really didn't have a problem with anything DG did in the offseason.  His BPA approach in the draft makes sense and has netted the Panthers a better crop of players than what Hurney used to get.  In the long run, the Panthers are better off.  But right now, as they try to get out of the cap-hell Hurney left them in, his hands are tied.  He's had to bargain-bin shop to fill the roster and that's not a position to be in when you're trying to build a Superbowl contender.  It just sucks because just like Steve Smith, the Panthers are wasting Cam Newton's prime years with a subpar supporting cast.

Pretty clear you have no clue what a GM does

Hint: Having a GM who'll put in his own time on player evaluation is a good thing, not bad. As to his PR skills, who gives a flaming rip? He's running a team, not running for office.

Gettleman went for veteran safeties because smart players like that work pretty well behind a high pressure defensive line.

Unfortunately, thanks to Charles Johnson being hurt and Greg Hardy being where he is, we don't have that anymore.

Who would want to work for a shitty boss?

Maybe his personality deterred players from signing here.

For the most part Gettleman has done well here.  You can't blame the pick of Ealy now because we are incredibly weak at DE.  Ealy isn't ready to make an impact yet but if he grows and develops he could wind up being a very beneficial selection in the future.  Gettleman didn't know that poo was gonna happen with Hardy either.  You all would have poo on him had he just let Hardy walk after this season.  He made the right call there.  Keep him around for one more year to at least get 16 more games out of a top 5 DE in the NFL.

Gettleman is still stuck in Hurney purgatory.  He had extremely limited options this offseason.  Who was he supposed to add to the OL? I guess a late round selection on Seantrel Henderson could have helped but I mean come on.  we knew the secondary was gonna be bad but not this bad.  We expected to have another loaded DL that's constantly pressuring the QB but lol at that.  It's not Gettleman's fault JR caved to media pressure and made us sit Hardy even though nothing has been proven.

Gettleman is far from the problem.  The problem is that this team just is extremely weak at multiple positions (OT, DE, secondary primarily)
