the official "Dave Gettleman fuging sucks" thread

Yeah, pretty clear this board is gonna be overrun by REALITY for a while.

Time to find other ways to pass the day.

Fixed it for ya!

Gettlegut is a guy that spends hours pouring through data and evaluating players so GMs can make informed decisions.  He's one of the grunts that does the legwork, not a GM.  Horrible PR skills when it came to handling the Smith decision.  Did nothing to fill holes on the OL and protect his franchise QB other than to say, 'sometimes the answer is already on the roster'.  Sorry, we all know the Cruz story and you came from the Giants, but that is the exception and not the rule.

Should have looked at more tape on DeCoud and realized he cant tackle.  Godfrey doesn't make another NFL team, much less get significant playing time.   Godfrey was a poor safety and is an even worse corner.  What's the deal, is he the new Armanti Edwards ... a player they like and keep for absolutely no logical reason.

Buckle in fans, the formula is out.  The Homers are still fighting reality.   Give it a couple more weeks and the Homers will go back to their previous Sunday activities.

A little perspective, when DG took over these were the quality long term solutions we had on the roster.

Defense: CJ, Kuechly, Davis

Offense: Cam, Kalil, Olsen

Everyone else sucked and/or would be off the roster within a year. So our needs:

DT (nose tackle)

DT (undertackle)

OLB

DE

CB1

CB2

Nickelback

Strong Safety

Free Safety

Left Tackle

Right Tackle

Left Guard

Right Guard

#2 Tight End

WR1

WR2

WR3

RB1

RB2

Kick returner

Punt returner

Now you have no cap space and 11 draft picks (only 5 picks in the first 3 rounds), fix all that, GO

I see no one is up for the challenge over an hour later. I want to see those that are calling for coaches heads, the GM's head, and owners head address this.

Pretty clear you have no clue what a GM does

Hint: Having a GM who'll put in his own time on player evaluation is a good thing, not bad. As to his PR skills, who gives a flaming rip? He's running a team, not running for office.

Gettleman went for veteran safeties because smart players like that work pretty well behind a high pressure defensive line.

Unfortunately, thanks to Charles Johnson being hurt and Greg Hardy being where he is, we don't have that anymore.

What is there to complain about? He has no money to spend yet and sorry he didn't know hardy wouldnt be able to play. The only thing you can question is releasing of Smitty. The oline is playing fine. Its not easy to pass protect when you dont establish the run. the offensive play call is the problem. Anyways we are in first place and the team will only get better as Cam and the team gets healthier

Yeah, I'd say replacing guys like Mitchell and Munnerlyn and Ginn with guys like Harper and Cason and Cotchery was a terrible philosophy this offseason. He signed old castoffs from crappy defenses and receiving corps. Massive mistake.

What would you have done. Given the cap situation. Curious.

I don't remember who was out there at the time, but Gettleman's decisions have created the worst secondary in the NFL. No one is even disputing their the worst and he drafted or signed every single one of these guys except for Charles Godfrey.

Also, how many more years are we going to use the cap situation excuse? I have been posting on the Huddle since almost the beginning and I swear people have used this excuse every single year.

Really ... watch this game again and only watch the O-line.  Chandler got abused and our young guards look lost on stunts.  One of the reasons we cant establish the run is our o-line losing individual battles.  Too many breakdowns

If it was an excuse I would agree. However, it's not. It's a reality. Sure, Panthers have had cap issues in the past but not to this degree.

What would you do?

Your post indicates otherwise.

Doesn't sound like you understand the relationship between pressure and secondary play either, but that's a lot of people on here right now.

Nope, wrong again.  Pressure and secondary play have nothing to do with a player that cant tackle.  Problem is DeCoud cant tackle and Godfrey couldn't cover a baby with a blanket.  In fact, DeCoud does better at cutting off Panthers by taking bad angles and hitting our LBs off the ball carrier than actually contributing to a tackle.

Keep throwing out general, obvious statements that don't address the issues ... if that makes you feel smarter.

All im saying is its pretty easy to rush the passer when you know its a run play. Its also not Gettlemans fault both our OGs are injured

It's pretty clear that what I'm saying isn't so obvious, given you don't get it.

Agree, when your down by 30 points (LOL), the d-line can pin their ears back.  Even tougher when you are playing against a defensive guru like Capers.  I don't think it was any better before our OGs got hurt though.

Unfortunately, we have a combination of inadequate personnel and Shula as our coordinator.
