Hornets vs. Wizards Preseason Game Thread

MKG with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 6-6 at the line.

Whatever you posted about him, do it for 82 games because it's working.

His points came off those rebounds.  Good for him.  He has a good motor and good athleticism.  Notice how we went on a 23-1 run when he wasn't on the floor though.  We need more offensive production out of our starting SF.  Point blank.

Are you kidding me? MKG has made several jumpers this preseason. Including a few pulllup jumpers with defenders in his face. His jumper looks much improved. And he is not hesitating to shoot. He had a bad shot in the first half tonight with the shot clock running down. But made a nice jumper later in the game.

We'll see what happens when the defensive intensity picks up.  I'll still bet other teams are pretty much going to let him shoot.

Think I'm dumb if you want, but it will get exploited in the playoffs.

Scrimmaging at practice.  A practice scrimmage is a game situation.  That's how.

Listen, I'm an idiot when it comes to a lot of things.  If there is one thing I'm good at, it's shooting a basketball.  That was my role as a player.  To a certain degree a person is either born with a good jump shot and good touch or not.  Very very rarely will a bad shooter ever turn into a good shooter.  There are guys out there that can shoot the rock but lack confidence so they might go through a cold streak.  Marvin Williams was like that before last season. Overall though I've never seen a player become a good shooter when they were bad.  Especially at this stage in the game for MKG.  I know he's still young in his NBA career, but it is way too late to try and fix is form.  It could hurt him worse.

He doesn't need to be Ray Allen. He just needs to be at a point where defenders have to respect it. If he can get that far, Mark Price has done his job.

I'll take MKG's efficient stat line tonight every day of the week.

On the other hand, we need more defense on the perimeter if Marv and Al are going to be manning the frontcourt.

I hope he can get to the point where a team might think about guarding him.  I think that he can give us that same production off the bench.  We can't space the floor properly with him in the game because he can only score inside.  It creates some spacing issues with you have Big Al, MKG, and Zeller all swirling around the post.

I don't think you're dumb. I think your someone who hasn't been watching much preseason action. Or else you would acknowledge his improved form/shot.

He can still be a defensive presence coming off the bench.  I don't dislike MKG.  I'm just being real about his shooting.  We didn't start scoring until he hit the bench.  As much as I like defense....it's not football.  You need good offense, then supplement with defense.  We were 4th in defense last year and got swept in the first round.

And literally every other possible matchup in the first round last year could have arguably been a victory. There's a reason we desperate wanted that 6th seed and Miami tanked into the 2nd seed.

The Bobcats last year didn't get to the playoffs with that roster by running guys out of the gym. They played defense first. The Heat just out-talented the Bobcats and have a tremendous defensive and offensive scheme. That's why the Bobcats could never beat the Big Three.

The Hornets have enough on offense to give MKG time to develop. What they don't have is enough offense to run and gun with the Cavs or Spurs and limit MKG's minutes.

MKG has the ability to be a more athletic Scottie Pippen... LoL @ benching him or trading him away for a jump shooter

Lol at the Scottie Pippen comparison.

He'll never be Scottie Pippen.  That's a dream manifest into reality if that happened.  I'd be happy if he could end up as a Bruce Bowen type, but even Bruce could knock down the open 3.

I didn't say trade him away for a jump shooter.  I said we need more offensive production coming out of the SF spot.  Preferable from a guy who can get to the basket and also has a solid mid range game.

There's a reason we offered Hayward a SF a max contract while MKG was on the roster.  It wasn't so MKG could start over him I'll tell you that much.

Dude, they swept us.

Hayward would have played at SG...
