Should refs help prevent penalties?

As to the question, I didn't play high level football, but when I played basketball some refs would tell you to get out of the lane if you were in danger of getting a 3 second call, or tell you to get your hands off a guy instead of calling the foul right away. Or if they make a call you don't understand or think was wrong they would tell you what you did or should have done

Different refs probably go about it different ways

I'm only ok with it if, by having the play happen, it has a good chance of injuring a player. Lining up over center is one of those type of plays, so in this case, I wouldn't mind it.

Anything else though, they should just keep silent and observe. Else, it's unfair advantage.

Remember that pic from Zod when a ref spoke to KB in a game break on the bench. I like the idea of refs giving advice, especially in situations where penalties are rare. Like that play on ST. I am in favour of it, as long as it benefits all teams.

But there's no guarantee someone would get injured, and preventing someone from committing a penalty can affect the outcome of a game.

If a ref can, by action or inaction, sway the result of a game, is this not an integrity issue?

I'm fine with players asking. Not so thrilled with refs offering help.

Worried about injury because you see a guy lined up wrong? Blow the whistle and throw the flag before the play starts. They'll learn soon enough.

It isn't a penalty until the snap has occurred in this situation. Or, until the player tries to leap the long snapper.

You're trying so hard, it's admirable.
